  • Shawver to attend Naval Academy summer seminar

    Christina Shawver, a student at Spencer County High School, will participate in the 2011 U.S. Naval Academy Summer Seminar program in Annapolis, Md., the academy announced in a news release.

  • High school fares well at history competition

    Spencer County High School was represented by 25 students at the Regional National History Day Competition held Saturday, March 26 at the Frazier International History Museum.  The following students placed high enough to move on to state competition on April 30 at the Kentucky History Center in Frankfort.

  • Stidham makes Louisville dean’s list

    Wendy Stidham, a daughter of Chuck and Gina Stidham, was named to the University of Louisville’s fall 2010 dean’s list with a 3.94 GPA for the semester.
    She is a sophomore marketing major with an entrepreneurship minor in the College of Business.
    Stidham is also an active member in U of L’s marching band, honors program, Honors Scholars Program, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the Golden Key International Honor Society.

  • Prom fashion show planned

    Prom is around the corner, and two organizations at Spencer County High School are making it easier for teens to find the attire for that memorable night.
    The Spencer County Youth Service Center and the PRIDE Club are hosting a Prom Fashion Show and Auction on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
    Admission is $3, and free door prizes will be awarded.
    “We will be showcasing new dresses and tuxedos from area businesses [and] showing the latest prom fashions,” organizers said in a news release.

    The Spencer County Middle School Grizzly Heroes for the month of January pose for a picture. Pictured are Halee Hood, Joshua Baunach, Derrick King, Joey Abell, Jarred Peak, Meghan Marks, Madison Carrico, Mac Oder and Joe Quintero. Also named Grizzly Heroes, but not pictured are Greg Barkham, Adam Light, Rachel Clark, Hunter Bruce and Hannah Brooks.

    Coming to Taylorsville Elementary School, June 13 — 17, the Camp Invention program is a weeklong adventure in creativity that immerses children entering grades one through six in exciting, hands-on learning disguised as fun activities.

    Sen. Paul Hornback recently visited Ruth Ann Sweazy and Mary Forberger’s classes at Taylorsville Elementary School.

  • TES February students of the month

    Taylorsville Elementary School February Students of the Month were Trish Vires, Kaelin Koppel, Jamie Wheatley, Stanley Shivers, Kaleb Whitlock, and Cameron Swanson.
    These students received a certificate, Tiger Pride shirt, and joined Heidi Heiss, school counselor, for lunch.
