    WKU Dean's List

    The names of the Western Kentucky University students who were named to the dean’s and president’s list for the Fall 2010 semester have been announced.

    The following Taylorsville students were named to the list: Brenda M. Sherlock, Kelsey L. Wagner, Stefanie J. Green, Allison J. Beeson, Brooke C. Armstrong and Kathryn E. Minyard.

  • High school to get 'near-peer' college coach

    Students at Spencer County High School may get help preparing for college by working with a coach from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA).
    KHEAA has recruited recent college graduates to be “near-peer” coaches for high school students in 24 schools across the Commonwealth.

  • DJ Carey named SCHS student of the week

    Spencer County High School freshman DJ Carey has been named the school’s student of the week. Carey plans to get a job or go to college after graduating and is inspired by his parents. Outside of school, he enjoys riding ATVs, fishing and playing badminton. Carey said if he could describe himself in one word, it would be “quiet.” He hopes to one day visit Europe and his favorite food is pizza. If he had one superpower, he would create a machine that manufactures money, so he could have all the money he ever wanted.

  • Taylorsville Elementary names GREATS for second nine weeks

    The following Taylorsville Elementary School students were named to the GREATS list for the second nine-weeks grading period.

  • Board asking for planning committee nominations

    The Spencer County Board of Education is asking for nominations of good candidates to serve on its planning committee.

    District Operations Director Brett Beaverson said two members recently resigned from the committee, which helps research and plan future district building projects.

    Nominees should be a community and/or business leader. Nominations must include the nominees name, contact information and a letter of interest, stating nominee’s qualifications.

  • Thomas named SCHS student of the week

    The Spencer County High School student of the week for Jan. 24-28 is junior Corey Thomas.

    Thomas plans to attend the University of Louisville where he wants to study law and eventually be a viable candidate for president of the United States. His inspirations include his grandfather and past president Ronald Reagan.

    Outside of school, Thomas enjoys watching sports and FOX news. He describes himself as confident and would one day like to visit Germany.

  • Aspiring teachers get chance in local classrooms

    Thanks to the efforts of a history teacher at Spencer County High School, fifteen students hoping to pursue a career in education have been receiving a first-hand glimpse into what it is to impart knowledge to youngsters.
