  • Miller graduates from Basic Combat Training

    Army Reserve Spec. Phillip T. Miller has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.
    During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.

  • Taylorsville man meets soap star

    Marty Allan Harp recently returned from vacationing in Los Angeles. While there he went to the annual Days of Our Lives fanfare weekend. He is pictured here with Suzanne Rogers who plays Maggie Horton on Days of our Lives. She’s been on the show since 1974. Marty has been a fan of the show since then, and has attended the event since 1986 and has met most of the cast members.

  • Benningfield, Thompson to wed Saturday

    Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Benningfield, of Taylorsville, announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Maria Anka Dawn Benningfield, to Erin L. Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Thompson, also of Taylorsville.

  • Ross, Lancaster to wed July 1

    Brittany Nicole Ross of Louisville and Jacob Michael Lancaster of Louisville announce their engagement and upcoming marriage at noon on July 1 at the Spencer County Courthouse.

    The bride-to-be is a daughter of Terry and Tammy Ross of Taylorsville.
    She is a 2009 graduate of Spencer County High School.
    The groom-to-be is a son of Mike Lancaster of Louisville and Dottie Lancaster of Cecilia.
    He is a 2001 graduate of Carroll County High School.

  • Griggs, Greer wed June 1

    Michelle Griggs and Timothy Greer, both of Taylorsville, were married June 1.

    The bride is a daughter of the late Donald Johns.
    The groom is a son of Patricia VanMeter of Taylorsville.
    The couple plans to reside in Versailles.

  • Welcome, baby Wade

    Jonah Wade and Aimee Jewell of Taylorsville announce the birth of their son, Noah Alexander Wade, on April 15 at 9:18 p.m. at Baptist Hospital East.

    He weighed 8 pounds, 6.8 ounces and was 21 1/2 inches long.
    He was welcomed home by his grandparents, Arlene Jewell and John and Kim Wade, and his great-grandmother, Ruth Mizner Rogers.

  • Ky. communities unfriendly to walkers, joggers, cyclists

    Few Kentuckians live in walkable communities, according to the latest Kentucky Health Issues Poll for the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky.

    Only 32 percent of Kentucky adults said there are a number of destinations within an easy walking distance from their home, and only 47 percent said they live in communities with sidewalks or shoulders on streets that allow for safe walking, jogging or biking.

    As our lives get busier, it becomes increasingly difficult to make sure our children stay active. We often think that organized sports and structured activities are the answer, and maybe they are for some. They can be costly, however, and it really should be possible for parents and children to exercise without spending a lot of money. So what are some ways to keep your kids active? Look to old-fashioned methods of finding fun for ideas on fun exercise.

  • Baby Nethery born March 10

    Josh and Heather Nethery of Mount Eden welcomed their baby boy, Ethan Todd Nethery, to the world March 10 at 2:20 a.m.
    Ethan was born at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, weighing 8 pounds, 14.3 ounces. He was 20.5 inches long.
    Ethan was also welcomed by his grandparents, Gary and Teri Nethery, Ken Moore and Ruth Moore-May; and his great-grandmother, Oneita Moore.

  • Lee completes basic training

    Air Force Airman Joshua T. Lee recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

    He is a son of Douglas and Deborah Lee of Old Briar Ridge Road in Mount Eden. Lee graduated in 2010 from Spencer County High School in Taylorsville.
