  • Baby Washburn welcomed

    Gerald and Amanda Washburn of Taylorsville welcomed their son, Nolan Trent Washburn, Feb. 3, 2011, at 11:30 a.m.
    Washburn was born at Baptist Hospital East, weighing 4 pounds, 15 ounces. He was 17 inches long.
    He was welcomed by his older brother, James Robert Hughes Jr. and by his grandparents, Earl and Shelley Lewis and Deanna Young Lewis of Wilsonville; and Gerald Washburn and Gwen Washburn, both of Taylorsville.

  • Anzalone definitely surprised at 91st birthday party

    Lillie Anzalone of Taylorsville was honored on Feb. 6 with a surprise birthday party at Misty Valley Wedding Chapel given by her nieces, Sharon Daily and Hope Sedlock and her nephew, Doug Goodlett. Over 100 friends and relatives attended the celebration. Anzalone was 91.

  • McCall to celebrate 90 years Feb. 26

    Jessie McCall is celebrating her 90th birthday at Elk Creek Baptist church Saturday, Feb. 26 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. All family and friends are invited to the celebration. The gift of your presence is the only gift requested. No gifts, please.

  • A grand birthday surprise

    Pictured is Susan McGowan, second from left, with her granddaughter, Morgan,  and daughter-in-law Cara McGowan.  Cara and Morgan surprised Susan with a birthday party at CupCake Corner at The Red Scooter Feb. 12. Susan was greeted by several long-time friends at the party.  Susan teaches at Spencer County High School.  Susan is a Spencer County resident. Cara and Morgan live in Indiana.

  • McAllister graduates from University of Tennessee

    Sarah Elizabeth McAllister recently received a bachelor’s degree in communications and advertising with a minor in business administration Dec. 11, 2010, from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

    McAllister has located to Orlinda, Tenn. and has started a job with an advertising firm on Music Square in Nashville.

    Sarah is the daughter of Tony and Carol McAllister of Orlinda; the granddaughter of the late Leonard and Margaret McAllister of Taylorsville and the late Russell and Lois Griffith of Parkersburg, West Virginia.

  • Spencer's sixth man provides real home court advantage

    Andrew Dockery has gone all year without scoring a goal, gaining a yard, making a pass or sinking a free-throw.
    However, there may not be a more valuable student for Spencer County athletics than this senior who has made it his mission to fire up the home crowd.

    Dockery is easy to recognize. Though slight of build, he stands out with his blue and white wig and his high-energy effort to get fellow students and other fans behind their team whether it’s at home or away.

  • Resident recognized for work

    Recently, Spencer County resident Margaret Miles, pictured third from left, was recognized at the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet’s Employee Suggestion System Awards. The ceremony was hosted at the Governor’s Mansion in Frankfort.

    Also pictured are Cabinet Secretary Mike Brown, cabinet employee Brian Kiser and First Lady Jane Beshear.

  • Local Scouts learn survival techniques

    On Jan. 29 and 30, several Boy Scouts from Troop 176 braved the elements to earn their Wilderness Survival merit badge, following instructions on what to do if lost or stranded in the woods, first aid, fire building, and rescue signaling. The Scouts are required to construct a survival shelter and spend the night in it in order to earn the badge. The following Scouts from the All Saints Troop are: Hunter Detrich, Joe Hayes, Logan Kurtz, Connor Meeks and Luke Williamson.

  • 40th anniversary

    Bill and Brenda McAllister celebrated recently their fortieth wedding anniversary. The couple wed Jan. 8, 1971, at Plum Creek Baptist Church in Waterford and currently resides in Mount Washington. Both are Spencer County natives and retired from the Bullitt County School System.

    Bill is a broker/realtor/developer for Coldwell Banker Action Realty in Mount Washington.

    The couple has two children, Abby and Andrew, and two grandsons, Zane and Zachary McAllister, all of Louisville.

  • Family welcomes Samuel Earls

    Ronald Ernest Earls and Jennifer Marcum would like to announce the birth of their son, Samuel Owen Earls.

    Samuel was born Nov. 13, 2010, at Norton Suburban Hospital. He was six pounds, nine ounces and 19 inches long.

    Samuel was welcomed home by his older brothers, Andrew Paul Earls and Jacob Cole Earls.

    Proud grandparents are Ronnie and Paula Earls.
