  • Stay attached to the Vine

    Read John 15:1-8

God’s Word is full of imagery depicting the relationship that Jesus has with all those who are baptized into His name.

Some examples of that imagery are: Jesus is the Groom and the church is His bride, Jesus is the head of the body and we are the parts of the body, Jesus is the Shepherd and we are the sheep, Jesus is the vine and all who are united to him in faith are the branches.

  • Fitting it back together

Everybody’s done it from time to time, you drop that plate or glass and suddenly you hear that awful crash. What was once whole, useful and maybe even pretty, now lies broken and shattered on the ground. What a mess!

We bought this beautiful handmade vase once, and before we even got it home it was in two or three pieces. I did my best to glue the pieces in place, but you can tell. I can see it right now from my desk. We keep the unbroken side turned out, but turn it just a little and you can’t miss the cracks.

  • Chosen by Jesus

    Read John 15: 12-17

Let me ask you a question: Can a person have absolute assurance that their sins are forgiven, that they are a child of

God, and that heaven is their home when they die? Spend a moment and think about that question and about your spiritual journey.

There are two basic ways that people try to get to heaven.

  • It seemed like a good idea

This morning as I was walking our dog, I noticed a lot of worms along the sidewalk and in the road. You’ve probably seen them from time to time too. Some of them are still wiggling a little, but many have sort of dried up. This morning I walked past one that was still moving a little and then I stopped. I went back and picked it up and tossed it in the grass thinking, “Well, at least that one will make it!”

  • Promoted to glory

Just last week I was at the funeral of a friend of ours. His name was Howard Jones. His son and his wife have been good friends of ours since we moved to Louisville twenty years ago. Howard made an impression on everyone he came in contact with. From his sense of humor, to his love for the Lord, you knew God’s grace was upon him.
