  • COLUMN: ‘Take heart, I have overcome the world’

John 16:32-33 says, “Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Jesus spoke the words recorded in St. John chapter 16 during his last supper with his disciples. It was the night he would be betrayed by Judas. It was the night before he would be crucified for the sins of the world.

  • COLUMN: Clothes say something about you

Every morning I get up and decide what to wear for the day. Some days it’s jeans and a regular shirt, some days it is a little nicer, sort of business casual, then there are days that require a coat and tie. You probably face the same decisions, what to wear to meet the needs of the day.
Sometimes a day requires several looks, working hard in the hot sun during the day and then taking your wife to a nice restaurant in the evening may mean a change of clothes. Some teenagers can’t seem to get through a day without three or four different looks.

    John 16:12-22 says:

  • COLUMN: Make sense through the fog

It was foggy this morning as I walked the dog.  It wasn’t that dense, “can’t see your hand in front of your face,” kind of fog. In fact you could only tell it was there if you looked across the street, the neighbors house was just a little blurry. But then looking out a little farther, things got more indistinct, until finally everything just disappeared.

  • COLUMN: Do you have a heart like Peter?

Today’s biblical text comes from John 21:1-14:

  • COLUMN: Mistaken identity?

Just the other day I was looking for something at the store and I saw a lady with a clipboard and folding file-checking things off a list as she was looking at a shelf. I went over to ask her a question about something only to discover she did not work there. On closer examination I realized she was one of those extreme coupon people and she was just checking her list.
