  • Sympathy is not a substitute for action

We do not have to look very far to find someone that needs a miracle. Many are suffering some type of crisis with everything from health problems, their children, and grieving over a loss, to finances, marriage issues and addictions. When difficult situations are presented, we become sympathetic, but how often do we consider that God may have brought these individuals to our attention so that we can not only pray but to intervene and help meet their needs? Instead of just discussing the situation and having pity, maybe we can become the miracle they are praying for.

  • Doing it the right way

It is amazing how many things you learn after you get married.  For example, it never dawned on me that there was a wrong way to lay out a dish rag.  When I finished doing the dishes, I would just leave the dishcloth in the sink, usually balled up in the corner.  My new bride informed me that I was doing it wrong.

  • Hidden in plain sight

Most of us enjoy those picture puzzles where things are hidden in plain sight.  You know the ones I mean, like a picture of a wheat field with a pencil and a fork hidden on the page.  You know it is there, but it is so hard to pick out.

Then there are optical illusions, I love those too.  You know, where you look at a picture and all you can see is a chair, unless you see the house.  Both are there, but we can only perceive one at a time.

  • Comforting lies

Most mornings we get up and at least glance in the mirror, but what do we really see?  As I get older, I realize the guy in the mirror has changed.  I mean, when did that double chin show up?  And where did my hair go?  So I see evidence every day that I am not as young as I used to be, yet in my mind I still think like that 25-year-old I remember.

  • Soundtracks of life

Have you noticed how much music is a part of our lives?  We get in the car and turn the radio on, we ride an elevator and the music is playing, we eat out and all the time there is music in the background.  Music is a big part of our lives.

Somehow music engages our emotions, but it can also engage our minds.  A good song may get us to tap our feet; a great song will touch our hearts and make us think about life.  Some songs bring tears to our eyes, others bring laughter, and some just speak to us in ways we can’t even explain.
