  • Is it time to arm churches?

A faith group in our town recently held a worship event with about 350 plus people in attendance. Throughout most of the Friday evening worship event and Saturday morning recognition service two armed police officers were located in the main event auditorium. They were wearing uniforms and badges and wearing their pistols. There were also three people (with permits) carrying concealed pistols.

  • Clear vision ahead

Until a few years ago I had great eyesight, but now I need reading glasses. And I never realized until then how dirty your glasses could become before you notice. You just start squinting and the words on the page start getting fuzzy and you wonder why.

It’s sort of like a dirty windshield with bad windshield wipers in the rain! You can see through the glass, but everything is smeared and distorted. And let’s face it, with reading and especially with driving, it is a good thing to be able to see clearly. Glasses and windshields often need cleaning.

  • Dangerous beauty

I am not a storm chaser, but I can understand why some people do it.  I know a lot of them say it is for the science, and I am sure we can learn a lot, but I don’t think that is the whole story.  If it were just about learning more about thunderstorms, tornadoes and hurricanes there would not be any “Storm Chaser” vacation packages.  And yes, that is a real thing.

  • About guardian angels

As a child I was always told I had a guardian angel. I probably thought of him more as a guardian tattletale. Seemed like I was always the one who got caught. Even if I wasn’t at fault, I got caught. When it was my fault, I still got caught. I never could seem to get away with anything. It could be that my guardian angel was actually looking out for my well-being.

  • Slow down and avoid temptation

Last week I was on vacation and found myself at a four-way stop. I just sat there for a few minutes until my wife said, “You can go, it’s your turn.” I looked around for a minute and realized I had been waiting for the light to change! Since the lights don’t change at a stop sign I would probably still be waiting. I guess I really needed those days off.

  • Backsliding a slow road

“Honk if you love Jesus. Text while driving if you want to meet Him.” This saying has appeared on numerous church signs throughout the country.

I admit, there are a lot of tacky sayings on church signs, some just want to make you gag. But this is one of those sayings I truly embrace. In fact, if I did have a sign on our church property, this is one saying I would definitely put on it. Unfortunately, being on Main Street, there are ordinances against such signs.

  • Jesus pursuing His runaway bride

Now that spring has sprung and summer is near, weddings are far and wide. Having just performed a wedding in my own church, I cannot help to think of the 1999 movie, “The Runaway Bride.”
