  • PHOTOS: Little Mount Baptist hosts fall festival

Little Mount Baptist Church recently celebrated its annual fall festival Sept. 10. Attendees enjoyed wagon rides, music, a yard sale, craft booths and an auction.

  • COLUMN: God is everywhere

I finished reading through the Old Testament. Even though I have read through it a few times before, this was a great experience. No matter how many times you read God’s word, every time you read God’s word it is a new experience.
When I grew up, I heard preachers preach that God is everywhere and that was hard for me to understand because I did not know God. Now that I have accepted him as my personal savior, it is easy for me to understand that God is everywhere.
David in Psalms 139 tells us where God was with him.

  • COLUMN: God’s word shines light on deeds of darkness

A few nights ago I was walking our dog one evening and I heard coyotes yipping and howling in the distance.  Having grown up in the city, I didn’t realize what a nuisance coyotes could be in a rural community.  Now I know that coyotes can kill calves and chickens and will even snag the occasional family pet!
One friend of ours had a pesky coyote problem, but he finally shot one particular coyote and the problems stopped.  He had that thing stuffed and stood it by his front door like it was howling at you as you entered!

  • COLUMN: Giving all that you have to the Lord

Luke 21:1-4 says: “And he looked up and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites. And he said, of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all. For all these have in their abundance cast in unto their offerings of God but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.”
I looked mite up in the dictionary and it defined it as a coin of very small value or a very small sum of money.

  • COLUMN: No excuses: Obedience to God at all costs

Jonah 1:1-3: “Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the son of Amittai saying, arise, go to Nineveh, that great city and cry against it, for their wickedness is come up before me. But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare thereof and went into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.”

  • COLUMN: Big dreams for a big God

Last night I woke up laughing from a dream.  What I remember most vividly is an out of place baby elephant sitting in a watering trough spraying water all over my poor wife. Thinking about it even now I can’t help but chuckle, but I don’t know if I could explain it fully.  You’d have to know about the little white bull and the muddy cowboy for it to make sense!

  • COLUMN: God is a conqueror

My son-in-law and daughter bought a church building and wanted Roberta and I to start a new church there. We did not want any part of that, and had all kind of excuses not to do it.
The excuse that sounded the best was that we were too old to get into anything like that. I was 79 and Roberta was 76.
You know that was old to start a church, but we could not convince God we were too old.
One day our lay witness team came and we dedicated the church building to God. God was there and said, “You start a church here.”

  • COLUMN: One of a kind

When I was young, my parents insisted that I take art lessons, and I guess they stuck.  Not that I am a great artist, but I really enjoy art of all kinds.  One of my favorite things to do is to wander around an arts and crafts show and see all the amazing things people create.

  • COLUMN: Don't get burned

Most cats I have met are independent and go their own way.  When I was a kid, our cat Kitty was certainly that way. She did things her way and didn’t seem to care what the rest of the family thought about it.
Everything changed one night shortly after we had moved into a house in the country.  One night a black cat showed up meowing pitifully at our back door. We could not shoo her away, she just kept coming back.  I finally went out to chase her away, but something stopped me.  This cat somehow seemed familiar.
