  • COLUMN: Start the day off right with God

Do you remember getting ready to race when you were little? Someone always said, “Ready, set, go.” And you would take off.
It seems like there was always that one kid who would say, “Ready, set…,” and then pause before saying “go.” Without fail someone, like me, would fall forward and we’d have to start all over again.

  • COLUMN: People or paperwork?

Over the last few weeks I have been interacting with insurance agencies, banks, doctors and assorted other organizations on behalf of my mother.  The headaches and mindless policies can drive you crazy!  And then there are those who forget that each policy number or account number represents a living breathing person! By the way, all of this stuff happened in a state that will remain nameless, although orange and volunteer may give you a hint!

  • COLUMN: A disastrous downtown

In 1 Kings 3:9 we see King Solomon asking God to give him an understanding heart to judge the people between good and bad. Did God answer that prayer? Look at 1 Kings 4:29-30: “And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country and all the wisdom of Egypt.”

  • One way: Jesus is the only avenue for this life

You may not know this, but I grew up in Baltimore Maryland.  At that time the Colts still played in Baltimore and the Orioles used to occasionally win a World Series.  Then, I ended up in Southern California for a while, about the time a fellow called Magic Johnson started playing for the Lakers.

  • COLUMN: Be a ‘good samaritan’ to someone you meet

Luke 10:25-37 says, “And behold a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him saying ‘Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?’ He said unto him, ‘What is written in the law? Have readest thou?’ And he answering said, ‘thou shalt love the Lord they God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.’

  • COLUMN: Soar to new levels when you trust in the Lord

Recently you may have seen the ad on TV where a young woman climbs a mountain and ends up standing on the peak.  The music is heroic, the theme of overcoming obstacles, of striving to the top is inspiring, but in the end it is a credit card commercial!

  • COLUMN: Jesus is the judge

  • COLUMN: Preparing for a new heaven and earth

I have heard many people say, “The Lord is coming back to Earth,” ever since I was a little child and he hasn’t come back yet. The Bible says he is coming back and I believe it. I also believe it will not be very long. Just take a look at how sinful our country is and the rest of the whole world. Sin will be the reason he will come back.

  • COLUMN: Building, not burning, bridges

Today I’ll make several phone calls, I’ll respond to my email and maybe even answer a text message or two. Today I’ll interact with people by waving at them from my car or conversing with them on the street. Like you, I am connected to people in all sorts of ways, from quick glimpses of life on Facebook to deep conversations over lunch.

  • COLUMN: Don’t be a ‘Doubting Thomas’

When I grew up, many times I would hear someone tell something and someone else would respond, “That doesn’t sound right,” and they would call the person “Doubting Thomas.”
I grew up with “Doubting Thomas,” not knowing it came from the Bible. I believe a lot of people who would use this saying did not know it came from the Bible either.
In John 14, Jesus told his disciples that he was going away to prepare a place for them and where he was there they could be, also.
