  • COLUMN: Authentic worship begins with a right heart

The word “spirit” in John 4:24 is not referring to the Holy Spirit — it has to do with your heart (emotions, feelings, affections).  Worship is extravagant love (meaning: “to kiss at”).  We love Him because He first loved us (1 John 4:19) — our love is both responsive and reflective.  Mark 12:30 says God gave us emotions to use for his glory — just like he gave you a body and  mind.

  • COLUMN: Only God can save America

I was talking to a person the other day, and he said, “This country is in such a mess, no man can bring us out of it, only God could, and they are not going to let him.”

  • COLUMN: Memorial Day a time for reflection

Are you getting ready for this weekend?  Stocking up on hamburgers and hotdogs?  Getting the car ready for a little trip?  Maybe even planning some home improvement project?  This year with the mild winter it feels like spring has lasted forever, but Memorial Day weekend is the traditional start of summer, and I think we all look forward to it.

  • COLUMN: Preach Jesus from the housetops

I was visiting a person the other day and he asked me, “When you were preaching did you ever look out over the crowd and wonder how many in the congregation had ever told anyone about Jesus Christ?”

  • COLUMN: Just like cars, there are all kinds of people
  • COLUMN: Let the tears fall down

One day when I was very young my parents promised me a day out. I don’t remember if we had planned a picnic or a trip to the zoo, I just remember that it rained cats and dogs. And I also remember how heartbroken I was. It wasn’t fair to my parents, they couldn’t help the rain, but I was so disappointed.

  • COLUMN: Saving up those heavenly treasures

Matthew 6:19-21 says, Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupt, and where thieves do not break through and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

  • COLUMN: Should mothers work outside the home?

In the last four weeks, I have heard a lot of discussion about Mitt Romney’s wife, who some say “never worked a day in her life.” The amazing thing is that we never go to the Bible for one answer about anything.
We have heard from both Democrats and Republicans, both sides, but I think the way it sounds to me is they don’t care if she worked outside of the home or not. They are trying to use it for a political football.

  • COLUMN: Make sure to grow your seed of faith

With spring here people all around are tilling up little plots and planting gardens.  I have enough trouble growing grass, so a garden is clearly beyond me!  But it amazes me to watch people planting seeds for tomatoes and cucumbers, for peppers and corn and beans and peas and whatever else they would like to raise.

  • COLUMN: Constitution written by ‘God fearing’ people

I saw on the news where the U.S. Supreme Court was going to rule on the Obama health care plan and they were going to study it and see if it was unconstitutional. The way I understand it is that if they rule it is constitutional, we will be made to buy it, regardless of whether we want it or not. I have heard some say “there is no way they can make us buy something we don’t want; you know that is not right.”
