  • A couple of “members” of the pigweed family are causing problems for farmers locally and across the state.

“The real problem issues are with soybeans,” said Jim Martin, a weed scientist with the University of Kentucky’s research and education center in Princeton. “It’s (pigweed) across the state. It started in western Kentucky along the river bottoms and found its way into central Kentucky as well as the rest of the state.”

  • With Independence Day right upon us, I’d like to share quotes from some of the founding fathers. People who had a vision for this country. Great men of faith, who weren’t afraid to express their belief in Jesus Christ.

  • A few years back I was driving down a windy, two lane road with only a double yellow line separating the opposing lines of traffic. I don’t usually dawdle as I drive so I was surprised when this car flew past me like I was standing still. I remember saying to my daughter, “She’d had better be careful, this is a dangerous road.”

  • A faith group in our town recently held a worship event with about 350 plus people in attendance. Throughout most of the Friday evening worship event and Saturday morning recognition service two armed police officers were located in the main event auditorium. They were wearing uniforms and badges and wearing their pistols. There were also three people (with permits) carrying concealed pistols.

  • Until a few years ago I had great eyesight, but now I need reading glasses. And I never realized until then how dirty your glasses could become before you notice. You just start squinting and the words on the page start getting fuzzy and you wonder why.

It’s sort of like a dirty windshield with bad windshield wipers in the rain! You can see through the glass, but everything is smeared and distorted. And let’s face it, with reading and especially with driving, it is a good thing to be able to see clearly. Glasses and windshields often need cleaning.
