  • My wife, Lynn, and I were looking forward to accompanying Congressman Guthrie on his visit with the 5th grade class at Spencer County Elementary School last Thursday. Congressman Guthrie would be speaking with the class about the origins of our government, the separation of powers and then a question and answer session. But first, two pupils conducted a tour of the school for the Congressman and they did a first class job.

  • FCA to host Go Tell event

    The Spencer County Fellowship of Christian Athletes will hold their Go Tell event on Wednesday, April 26 from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the high school gymnasium. Robert Palmer, a ministry consultant for Crossings Camp will be the speaker, with several students also taking an active part in the event.

    A festive get-together for Easter

    Have you invited family or friends for brunch or dinner over the Easter weekend? This is the perfect opportunity to concoct some wonderful dishes, enjoy yourself and impress your guests. You can make sure the event is a roaring success by following these three suggestions.

    Invite spring into your home

  • Easter is coming in just a few days; bunnies and eggs and Easter baskets everywhere, Easter egg hunts and new clothes and even a few family gatherings.  Those things are great, but aren’t really what Easter is about.

  • Community Easter Services

    The Spencer County Ministerial Association would like to invite you to the annual Community Easter Services.

    Good Friday Service will be held at noon on April 14 at First Baptist Church of Taylorsville. Brother Chad Goodlett of Taylorsville Community Church will bring the message.

    Easter Sunrise Service will be held at 7 a.m. at Wakefield Baptist Church, with Brother Lewis of Second Baptist Church bringing the message.

  • Did you ever submit an application for a job?  You know, you fill out the form with all your information and then hope they give you the job.  I’ve done that several times in my life, some of those jobs I got, some I didn’t.

    Another thing I remember is that at some point in time I quit those jobs.  I submitted an application, worked there for a while and then moved on to something else.  Most of us have done that from time to time.

  • The smell of fresh cut grass wafting through the neighborhood is one of the surest signs of spring. You should already be thinking about lawn care since it’s time to clip the grass for the first time. Your most important annual lawn duties begin with that first mowing.

    Colton Todd, Ethan Thompson, Luke Jeffiers, Emily Truax, Valerie Pucko, and Lily Cook all participated in the 4-H Teen Summit at the Kentucky Leadership Center March 16th -18th.  

    They all took full advantage of the leadership classes that were offered. Liz Walker is on State Teen Council, was a group leader, and directed leadership classes.

    The 4-H Teen Summit provides young people with essential leadership skills that can help them mature into successful, community minded adults.
