When I saw, “Welcome to California,” my heart stopped. “Dad, I’m sorry! I read the directions wrong. Surely Doc Albert didn’t want us in California!”

  • Dear Savvy Senior,

My mother, who’s 72, has become very forgetful lately and is worried she may have Alzheimer’s. Is her forgetfulness really something we should worry about? What should we do?

    Worried Daughter

    Dear Worried,

  • I got my first camera for Christmas when I was almost 9 years old. The first pictures I ever took were of my brothers opening presents.

Over the years, I took many photos, often of family, friends and our home, but occasionally stranger subjects. (My mother got increasingly frustrated by the photos I kept taking of the trees in our front yard.)

  • Of all the churches Jesus told John to write about, Philadelphia is the church I chose for our church.

  • How did it happen that we have become so blind to the little miracles of everyday life? Big, amazing miracles still happen. Someone returns from deep under the shadow of death and we rejoice. An unexpected financial windfall saves a family home. You look up after a frightening moment on the highway and realize that the crash never came.
