After participating in an extensive audition process at the district and state levels, Bruno Bedard, Spencer County High School Bb Clarinetist, was invited to perform with the 2009 Kentucky All-State Concert Band, under the direction of the renowned conductor, musician, composer, arranger and music educator, Samuel R. Hazo, Pittsburg PA. Bruno rehearsed with selected students from across the Commonwealth at the Galt House in Louisville February 4-7. The four days of very demanding rehearsals culminated in a concert at the Kentucky Center which featured a number of Hr.

I have long been taught that fall fertilization is preferred over spring fertilization for many plants, but there are some exceptions.  We had a tough 2008 growing season with late summer drought and a windstorm that only added insult to injury.  Add ice and a generally windy winter and some plants are in need of a little energy boost.  Summer drought and early fall leaf drop (or the severe desiccation that many deciduous plants experience from the wind storm) means that stored energy may be low.

APS Eneta Rose won grand champion female and APS Forever Lady 128 won reserve grand champion female at the 2009 Tennessee Angus Association Show & Sale, March 14 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.  Anne Patton Schubert, of Taylorsville, (seen in middle) consigned both animals.

Spencer County High School held its 2009 National History Day contest on Wednesday, March 11th.  Thirty juniors participated in their choice of individual or group projects in the areas of historical paper, exhibit, documentary, or performance.  This year’s theme was “The Individual in History: Actions and Legacies.”

Placing 1st in the individual exhibit category was William (BJ) Holmes with a project about one of the flag raisers at Iwo Jima, Franklin Sousley who was a Kentucky native.
