  • I am plotting and planning and placing order for onion sets and seed potatoes and summer crops that will be directly seeded in the garden once the temperatures really warm . . . I can barely stand the wait. I have two trays of seedlings that I started about two weeks ago and have begun another round of kale, broccoli and Brussels sprouts in three more trays.

  • Over the last few weeks I have been interacting with insurance agencies, banks, doctors and assorted other organizations on behalf of my mother.  The headaches and mindless policies can drive you crazy!  And then there are those who forget that each policy number or account number represents a living breathing person! By the way, all of this stuff happened in a state that will remain nameless, although orange and volunteer may give you a hint!

  • Rainbow styled cakes are a fun current trend in cake decorating. The rainbow can either be colors in the cake layers or batter, or some kind of rainbow in the frosting. I saw a rainbow cake for the first time about two years ago. A college classmate posted a photo on Facebook of a cake she and her son made with plain white frosting and colored layers. It looked so amazing! A few months later, Family Fun magazine featured a cupcake that had a rainbow layered into the batter.

  • The name “Hitler” can strike fear, painful memories, even hatred especially with those of us who lived during that period when this man was doing all of the well-known, documented horrible deeds to humanity, especially the Jews, during his reign of terror masterminding at least 6,000,000 of them.

    Dear Savvy Senior
What tips can you recommend to help me save on my drug costs? I’m 62 years old, and currently take six different prescription medications that I can barely afford.

    4-H Council
The Spencer County 4-H Council guides the 4-H program. These men and women hold a regular meeting every month to make plans and organize committees to carry out various events and activities of 4-H youth.

  • In 1 Kings 3:9 we see King Solomon asking God to give him an understanding heart to judge the people between good and bad. Did God answer that prayer? Look at 1 Kings 4:29-30: “And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country and all the wisdom of Egypt.”

Editor’s note: In 1962, The Spencer Magnet published on Thursdays.

The Spencer County High School boys’ varsity basketball team beat the Lebanon Junction Bulldogs by a score of 64-59.
The Bears hustled, and teamwork was exceptionally good. They had three men in double figures: Larry Hickman with 20, Bobby Coots with 15 and Charlie Stout with 10.

  • Dear Savvy Senior
Is there an age limit on being an organ donor? At age 73, I’m interested in being a donor when I die, but am wondering if they would still want my organs. What can you tell me, and what do I need to do to sign up?
    Willing But Old

    Dear Willing,

  • Disagreements and conflict are normal in any relationship, and, although most of the content of this week’s topic will relate to marriage, much of it can be applied to other relationships as well.
Conflicts can be a serious problem for some couples who find themselves continually hassling, fighting, arguing, often about things that may seem to be trivial or minor. These couples will often find that the arguments end up with either or both developing bad feelings, even resentments and serious anger episodes, with very little, if anything getting resolved.
