  • Jessica and Shelby McClain announce the birth of their baby brother, David Carlton McClain, on Sept. 8, 2011.

    David weighed 9 pounds, 2 ounces.
    His parents are Derrick and Amanda McClain of Bardstown.
    Grandparents are Mike and Teresa Haynes of Little Mount, Bobby and Terri Johnson of Fern Creek, and Garry McClain of Bardstown.

  • The family of Alvin and Lois (Fletcher) Miller would like to invite family and friends to help celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on January 21 from 2-4 p.m. at Highland Baptist Church in Shelbyville.

    The couple was married at the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville on Jan. 30, 1952.  
    They have five children and seven grandchildren. The couple reside on their farm in Shelbyville.

  • Marvin Eugene and Anna Frances Satterly Ockerman celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Dec. 23, 2011, and Christmas holiday with family at the Ockerman’s home in Bardstown.

  • As we leave 2011 and go into 2012, I would like to praise the Lord for being so good to Roberta and myself. I am 82 and she is 79 and God is with us. He has blessed us so much.
    Some days are better than others, but as far back as I can remember it has always been like that. The amazing thing about living a life with God is that he makes you realize that no matter what comes your way, you can weather the storm through his love. When we take Jesus into our life we no longer live our life for ourselves, but live it for him.

  • The latest Marketbasket Survey, conducted by the Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation in December 2011, indicates that average retail food prices in supermarkets across the state have decreased by 1 percent during this last quarter. According to the survey, the total cost of 40 basic grocery items was $115.90. This reflects a decrease of $1.16, or 1 percent, from the same list of items reported in the previous quarter.
