  • My golden opportunity! My chance to shine! My time to show my family that I’m a warrior, a champion, a real sportsman, uh, sportsdog! I’m sorry, I should introduce myself. I’m Mr. Dogwood, but my friends and family call me Woody. (Sometimes I’ll hear “Dogwood” if I’ve made a knucklehead decision or if my parents are trying to get my attention.) Anyway, I’m a black and tan miniature wiener dog who lives in the great state where I was born – Kentucky.

    Seven Counties Services Regional Prevention Center

    When I was growing up, we knew dinner was on the table by 6 p.m.  We always ate together as a family every night (except when my brother had practice for basketball or baseball, my sister with orchestra and plays and me with track or softball).  Even with our extracurricular activities, we ate together more often than not.  It was a time of talking with each other about our day at school, work, friends, family etc.

  • The Spencer County Cooperative Extension Service will be sponsoring a Marketing Conference Sept. 22 to aid local producers in selling their locally produced items.  The program starts at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Spencer Co. Extension Office.  We do request that you register for the meeting so that enough materials are prepared.  Please call 477-2217 to do so.

    There are several new marketing opportunities that are opening up in the very near future and we have some speakers coming to discuss these with those that are interested.

  • The VFW Post 11426 and the Ladies Auxiliary Scholarships are once again holding their Voice of Democracy essay contest.

  • Donna Blackthorn recently joined the staff at the Taylorsville Post Office as the new postmaster. She replaced Interim Postmaster Sandy Deapen who was filling the spot temporarily after David Jones left the postmaster position last December.

    Blackthorn brings with her 30 years experience with the United Postal Service, beginning as a distribution window clerk in St. Matthews in 1979. Since then, she has served in a variety of positions including payroll, accounting and information technology (IT), where she has worked for the past 17 years.

  • It is no secret that people with high blood pressure have a greater chance of heart attack, stroke and kidney failure compared to those with regulated blood pressure. However, high blood pressure is not the problem itself but a symptom of an even larger problem dealing with the heart.

  • As we look at 2 Chronicles chapter 34 we see the priest and the workman cleaning out and repairing the house of the Lord and in the process they found  the Word of God.

  • Kentucky’s President, Joyce Waterfill of Taylorsville, a member of Taylorsville #11426, led the state delegation of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the U.S. at the 96th national convention held August 15-20 at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix AZ.

    As leading representative of the state, she voiced the delegates’ votes during the election of national officers and played a key role in deciding the direction of the national organization for 2009-2010.
