  • These students are the winners of the DQ coloring contest here in Taylorsville.

    The month of April was Child Abuse Awareness month in which the Spencer County Family Resource Center, along with many other community partners, participated in a Pinwheel for Prevention campaign.

    Dairy Queen decided to do a coloring contest in which each student who brought in their colored pinwheel received a free ice-cream cone and the chance to win a banana split party for themselves and five of their friends!

  • The Spencer County Livestock Club attended the State 4-H Skill-a-thon Contest at the Franklin County Extension Office in Frankfort May 2. 

    The following members received awards: 

    Clover Individual Identification – 11th Lilli Hanik.  Clover Individual Evaluation – 1st Chris Miles, 18th Courtney Jeffiers.  Clover Individual Overall – 24th Chris Miles.  8th Place Clover Team Overall – Chris Miles, Lilli Hanik, Courtney Jeffiers, Ashley Montgomery. 

  • Joseph Snider, of Taylorsville, was named the Area 4 winner in the 2008 Jim Claypool Conservation Writing contest. This contest was a partnership between Kentucky Farm Bureau and the Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts entitled: “Working Trees: Kentucky’s Renewable Future.”

  • Nominations are now open for the 2010 Kentucky Teacher Awards, sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Education and Ashland Inc.

    Nominations may be submitted electronically by visiting the 2010 Kentucky Teacher of the Year Web site at kentuckytoy.com. The deadline for nominations is May 15.

  • Women across Kentucky will meet at First Baptist Church in Shelbyville for the 2009 Women of Worth Lifestyle Evangelism Conference on Tuesday, May 19.  This annual event is sponsored by the Kentucky Baptist Convention.

  • As we look at God’s word on alcohol, turn to Isaiah 5:11-14. “Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them! And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the Lord, neither consider the operation of his hands. Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished and their multitude dried up with thirst.

Preschool at 477-3210 for a brief prescreening interview if you have concerns that your child’s development may be delayed in the areas of hearing, vision, cognitive thinking skills, speech/language, self-help adaptive skills, socialization, and/or motor development. This screening is offered to Spencer County children 3 or 4 years of age. The screening will be held May 26-27 by appointment at Spencer County Preschool.

  • VFW Chili Cook-off

    It’s time for another cili cook-off sponsored by the VFW Post 11426 and Ladies Auxiliary. The cook-off will be held Friday at 106 Washington Street from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The cook-off is open to the public so bring your chili to the Post by 5:30 p.m. for judging and then enjoy a bowl of chili for $3.
