  • The Spencer County FFA Chapter  was named the state champion in    Senior Parliamentary Procedure, Junior Parliamentary Procedure,  Farm Business Management,  and placed second in the Record Keeping contest.    

    Individual awards were won by    Zach Cotton who was state winner in the Ag Entrepreneur competition   winning over $1300 in prize money.  Zach was also named the State Star Agribusinessman.   

  • With Father’s Day recently past, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I parent my kids.  Specifically, I’ve been thinking about what types of things come into their lives and how they are influenced by them.

    For example, my little girl has been learning her colors.  A couple of months ago as she was first getting this concept, she demonstrated her first awareness of color.  She brought a brown plastic toy to me.  I asked her what color it was, and she very plainly declared, “Chocolate!”

  • Little Union fish fry

    Little Union Baptist Church will be having a fish fry Friday at the Mattingly’s barn in Fairfield beginning at 11 a.m. Just look for the signs in Fairfield next to the Catholic church.

    Old Gospel Barn special singing 

    The Old Gospel Barn, located at 11286 Louisville Road (Hwy 31E), Cox’s Creek, will be having a gospel sing Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Performing will be the Waldridge family, the Cumbos, and more.  Admission is free. Plan to come and bring your family and friends.

    The Spencer County Youth Service Center Drama Camp invites you to join them this Friday for “Storybook Theater.” This event will be catered toward elementary-aged students with segments from the children’s books “Where the Wild Things Are,” and “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.” The drama camp performance will be held in the middle school auditorium beginning at 11 a.m. Admission to the event is free. The production will be directed by Kathy Fickel and Vickie Vincent.

  • The University of Kentucky Equine Initiative will hold an all-equine field day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 27 on UK’s Maine Chance Equine Campus on Newtown Pike, just north of Interstate75. Admission is free, and lunch will be available for purchase from the Fayette County Cattlemen’s Association and the Fayette County 4-H and FFA Livestock Club.

    The field day is designed for horse owners, farm owners, farm managers and equine veterinarians. Participants are encouraged to come prepared with a long list of questions for the experts.
