  • Like most young children, my daughter has always been fascinated by trains. She talked about trains. She watched the trains go by when we were driving (the trellis at Pope Lick is especially popular). We watched TV shows about trains. And several years in a row, she received pieces to a train set.

  • Our current warm, sunny weather — it’s about time — has made everyone just delighted and the intoxication of it all may lead us to act impulsively. I am as anxious as anyone to move some of my houseplants outdoors: my gardenia looks terrible in the dining room and the jasmine downstairs seems to stare into space dreaming of better days. Those days are coming, just be slow about the transition from indoors to out.

  • Winter outstayed its welcome this year, and with the weather finally warming up, many Kentuckians are anxious to get outside and make improvements to their yards. For those who plan to seed grasses this spring, now is the time to do it, said Gregg Munshaw, extension turf specialist with the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture.

  • Yard sale to benefit missions team
    A Ky. 55 yard sale is planned at the Finchville Baptist Church on Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds benefit the church’s Guatemala Missions Team.

    Waterford Church of Christ plans revival
    Waterford Church of Christ will host a revival Sunday through Thursday, April 25, at 7 each night. The focus of the revival will be “The Righteousness of God,” with guest speaker Burt Jones.

  • Chris and Ashley Sanders of Taylorsville announce the birth of their son, Zachary Chase Sanders, on April 4, 2013, at 7:29 a.m. He weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long.
    He was welcomed home by his siblings, Brianna and Cameron Sanders.
    His grandparents are Martin and Teresa Bruce of Waddy, David and Janice Cox of Shelbyville, Chris Sanders Sr. of Cincinnati, and Donna and Wilson Cox of Slade City.

  • Roy and Toni Bell announce the birth of their grandson, Zahdyn Thomas Bell, on Jan. 29, 2013.
    He weighed 8 pounds, 13 ounces and was 20 inches long.
    He is the son of Morgan Armstrong and Thomas Bell Jr.
    He is the nephew of Daniel and Makalla Bell of Taylorsville, Corey Jr., Courtney and Jasmine Bethal, and Brandon Bell of Louisville.
    He is the grandson of Tiffany and Corey Bethal Sr. of Louisville and the late Thomas Bell Jr.
