  • The 2013 Spencer County 4-H Tractor Driving Contest was Thursday at the Spencer County Extension Office. All participants took a knowledge skill test, inspected the tractors, and drove through an obstacle course, while using the safety procedures they learned in 4-H.

  • John 16:32-33 says, “Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
    Jesus spoke the words recorded in St. John chapter 16 during his last supper with his disciples. It was the night he would be betrayed by Judas. It was the night before he would be crucified for the sins of the world.

  • Every morning I get up and decide what to wear for the day. Some days it’s jeans and a regular shirt, some days it is a little nicer, sort of business casual, then there are days that require a coat and tie. You probably face the same decisions, what to wear to meet the needs of the day.
    Sometimes a day requires several looks, working hard in the hot sun during the day and then taking your wife to a nice restaurant in the evening may mean a change of clothes. Some teenagers can’t seem to get through a day without three or four different looks.

  • Cumbos to host gospel sing
    The Cumbos Old Gospel Barn, located at 11286 Louisville Road, in Cox’s Creek will host a gospel sing Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
    Featured guests are The Samaritans, The Sheltons and The Cumbos.
    The event is free and open to the public.

    VBS at Finchville Baptist
    Finchville Baptist Church will host vacation Bible school June 2-6 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each day.
    The theme is “Kingdom Rock.”

  • Memorial Day. Just another three-day weekend, right? Well, many of our younger generation may not know the actual day is May 30, although this year we celebrate it on May 27, blending it into another traditional long weekend.
    Since I am an elderly member of our society, I always knew what it was to honor our country’s veterans — I am one of them having served in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1963.
    Today’s column is about the honor and pride I have for our military, both active and retired.

  • I am not much of a drinker but I recently acquired a taste for bourbon – bourbon balls, that is. I also gained a new respect for the woman who invented them.
