  • Sherley Ray Cook, 75

    Sherley Ray Cook, 75, of Mount Washington, died Saturday, May 12, 2012, at his residence.
    He was a native of Jefferson County.
    He is survived by his wife, Mary Annette Hedges Cook; his sons, Michael Ray (Pam) Cook of Jeffersontown and Steven Lee (Donna) Cook of Taylorsville; and his daughters, Marci Annette (Douglas) Flechler of Taylorsville and Stacey Elizabeth (Patrick) Brown of Bardstown.
    Services are today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home in Taylorsville with the Rev. Sanford Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Valley Cemetery.

  • Garland Keith 'Bud' Husband, 73

    Garland Keith “Bud” Husband, 73, died Sunday, May 13, 2012, at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville.
    A native of Spencer County, he was the son of the late Chester and Carrie McGaughey Husband.
    Survivors include his sons, Farrell Husband of Cox’s Creek and Kevin Husband of Mount Washington; his daughter, Carrie Husband of Taylorsville; and his sisters, Anna M. Bowman, Nola Martin, Helen Shelburne, Lois Shouse and Opal Edwards, all of Taylorsville.

  • Lillian Calvert Radcliff, 87

    Lillian Calvert Radcliff, 87, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the Masonic Home in Shelbyville.
    Born in Mount Eden, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Lula Hazelwood Calvert and the widow of Charles William “Pete” Radcliff.
    She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pat Nethery, and her son-in-law Roy Davis Nethery.
    Survivors include her son, Charles M. “Chuck” (Sue) Radcliff of Beaver Dam.

  • Dr. James 'Jim' Stith, 97

    Dr. James “Jim” Stith, 97, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, after a short illness.
    A native of Meade County, he was preceded in death by his wife, Matilda Allen Stith; his parents, Sam and Mabel Stith; his brothers, Will Tom Stith and Sam Stith; his sister, Ruth Stith Rinehart; and sons, James B Stith Jr. and John G. Stith.
    He is survived by four daughters, Nancy Stith of Atlanta, Sally Steele of Lexington, Helen (George) Keck of Ceres, Va., and Mary Lee Goldstein of Henderson, Nev.
    Services were Saturday at Anchor Baptist Church in Lexington.

  • Pauline R. Hensley

    Pauline R. Hensley, of Waddy, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2012, at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville. Born on Pinson Fork in Pike County, she was the daughter of the late George Dewey and Polly Hatfield Runyon. Currently a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Mrs. Hensley was a former member of Salem Baptist Church in Shelby County and Plum Creek Baptist Church in Spencer County, and others where her husband served as pastor.

    She was a longtime member of the WMU. She was a former deputy Shelby County Court Clerk and a former loan officer at the Federal Land Bank.

  • Jayden Kyle Lewis, infant

    Jayden Kyle Lewis was stillborn April 27, 2012, at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville.

    Jayden is the infant son of Hannah Farmer and Justin Lewis of Taylorsville.

    In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Paula and Mike Katzman of Taylorsville, Brian Farmer of Cox’s Creek and Paul Lewis of Danville; his aunts, Micklaya Katzman of Taylorsville and Kiri Lewis of Danville; and his uncle, Michael Katzman of Taylorsville.

  • George Lee Cox Sr., 85

    George Lee Cox Sr., 85, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville.

    A native of Arcadia, Virginia, he was the son of the late George Luck and Gladys Ethel Hawkins Cox.

    In addition to his parents, Cox was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Hazel Yates.

    Survivors include his sons, Arthur Lee Wright and his wife, Ida, of Salem, Virginia, and George Lee Cox Jr., and his wife Rebecca, of Taylorsville; and a stepdaughter, Barbara Mahuron, of Taylorsville.

  • Kenneth Lisby, 92

    Kenneth Lisby, 92, of Waddy, died Friday, May 4, 2012, at his home.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Icie Hammond Lisby; a brother, William Lisby; and a sister, Lorena Souder.

    He is survived by his wife, Mary Casey Lisby; a son, Doug (Eunice) Lisby, both of Waddy; and a sister, Linda Taylor, of Lexington.

    Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, May 7, at Shannon Funeral Home with the Revs. Vernon Carpenter and James Hill officiating. Burial followed in Grove Hill Cemetery.

    Louise Travis Bentley, 85, of Taylorsville, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville.

    Born in Spencer County, she was the daughter of the late Ezra and Lilly Richie Travis.

    She was preceded in death by her brothers, Hubert Travis, Ray Travis, Chester Travis and Orville Travis, and her sisters, Laura Travis Nethery and Viola Travis Goodwin.

  • Betty Jesse Holt, 76

    Betty Jesse Holt, 76, died Monday, May 7, 2012, at Signature Health Care of Spencer County.

    Born in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Porter and Elizabeth Lucille Youngman Jesse.

    In addition to her parents, Holt was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Nahm.
