  • KSP to conduct traffic safety checkpoints in area

    Kentucky State Police Post 12, which provides police coverage for Anderson, Fayette, Franklin, Scott, Shelby, Spencer and Woodford counties, will be conducting periodic traffic safety checkpoints at locations approved by the Kentucky State Police Policy and Procedures Manual. There will also be special traffic enforcement in high collision areas using radar, laser and saturation patrols.

  • Life of Fairfield Post Office draws to a close

    The Postal Regulatory Commission signed and delivered the fate of the Fairfield Post Office Feb. 9 with a split decision. In the event of a split, the commission sides with the Postal Service’s decision. The decision means the post office’s retail services will end on Friday, May 18.

  • Police searching for owner of recovered bicycle

    Taylorsville police have recovered a bicycle that was located within the city. Anyone in the community that has lost or had a bicycle stolen and believes they could be the owner, please contact Taylorsville Police at 502-477-3231. The caller must be able to give an accurate description of the bike before it will be returned.

    Rep.   • Tinsley graduates from criminal justice training

    Jeffrey Todd Tinsley, a deputy with the Spencer County Sheriff’s Department, was among 25 law enforcement officers from 22 agencies across the state who graduated Friday from basic training at the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training.

  • PHOTO: Cooper earns honor in UK band

    Arden Cooper, a 2011 Spencer County High School graduate, was named the University of Kentucky’s Outstanding New Band Member. Arden, who is attending UK to study pharmacy, is a member of the marching band, concert band and pep band. Her favorite thing about attending UK is playing in the band at the basketball games.

  • Local students participate in video contest to deter underage drinking

    The Spencer County Middle School drama students are participating in the Reel Action Contest to Prevent Underage Drinking. Several local students have submitted video projects to the contest which are now available for viewing at http://www.reelactionky.com/viewing.html.
    Community members are encouraged to visit the website and vote for local contest participants. The videos produced locally include:

  • Board of education sets 2012 meeting dates

    Community members should take notice that the Spencer County Board of Education has voted to change its 2012 regular meeting dates.
    Board meetings are now held on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m., with the next regularly scheduled meeting planned for Feb. 27 at the Spencer County Middle School media center.
    The board previously met on the fourth Thursday of each month.
