  • What's Happening — Week of July 3

    Drivers license testing moved to Wednesday for July Fourth holiday
    Due to the Independence Day holiday being on Thursday, drivers license permit testing will be today between 8:30 and 10 a.m. Road skills testing will be at noon.

    County clerk’s office closed July Fourth
    The Spencer County Clerk’s Office will be closed Thursday in observance of Independence Day. The office will reopen on Friday.

  • Library happenings

    •The Spencer County Public Library’s summer reading program has ended.  Those who registered their children for the program, please come to the library to pick up their prize packages.

    •The adult summer reading program started July 1. Anyone wishing to participate should stop by the library to pick up the book bingo form. July will have numerous adult programs, including:

    -July 13: Make a hand scrub to pamper rough hands

    -July 23: Learn how to throw a pot with Albert Bauman at 6:30 p.m.

  • What's Happening — Week of June 26

    JDRF yard sale
    The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is hosting its eighth annual fundraising yard sale locally the next two weekends — this Friday and Saturday and July 5-6.
    The yard sale begins at 8 a.m. each day at 314 Lanter Lane in Taylorsville.
    All proceeds will benefit JDRF.

    Habitat for Humanity announces golf scramble
    Spencer County Habitat for Humanity is hosting its eighth annual golf scramble Saturday at Tanglewood Golf Course.
    Registration starts at 7 a.m. with shotgun start at 8.
    The event features door prizes and a catered lunch.
    All proceeds benefit the local Habitat chapter.

    Historical society to meet
    The Spencer County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet Monday at 6:30 p.m., at the Spencer County Library.

  • Fireworks at lake on July 6

    A fireworks display is planned for Saturday, July 6, at the Taylorsville Lake.
    The display is a result of a joint effort between the Taylorsville Lake State Park, the Taylorsville Lake Marina, Spencer County Tourism and the Friends of the Taylorsville Lake.
    Fireworks will be shot off of a barge between the marina and the Possum Ridge Boat Dock.
    The display will last at least 12 minutes — possibly longer if additional sponsorships are added.

  • Cannon twins to attend JDRF Children’s Congress

    Spencer County twins Jaden and Deven Cannon have been selected as delegates for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Children’s Congress to be held July 8-10 in Washington, D.C.

  • Robinson attends circuit clerks summer college

    Spencer County Circuit Court Clerk Becky M. Robinson participated in the 2013 Circuit Court Clerks Summer College that took place June 4-5 in Frankfort. The Administrative Office of the Courts provided the judicial education program for the state’s circuit court clerks.

  • Extension to launch Quilt Trail Project

    The Spencer County Extension Service will host a meeting Monday for anyone interested in a potential Spencer County Quilt Trail Project.
    Quilt trails involve a collection of barns or other area buildings that have large painted quilt squares on their sides. Communities come together to paint the squares and then have them displayed on buildings. Travelers often follow these trails to observe the rural quilt squares and visit the communities that created them.
