    Spencer County’s middle school and high school drama departments will present S.E. Hinton’s “The Outsiders” this weekend as their fall production.
    The show is directed by Spencer County High School senior Ben Hesse and produced by Spencer County Middle School Drama Director Shelby Steege.

  • What's Happening — Week of Oct. 31

    Curbside junk pickup starts this week
    Running through Friday, Nov. 2, Rumpke will host Spencer County’s fall curbside junk pickup on the same day as customers’ regular garbage collection.
    No hazardous materials or items such as old oil, tires, old paint and old antifreeze will be picked up.
    For more information, call Curtis Ochs, Spencer County solid waste coordinator, at 502-477-3218 or stop by 220 Main Cross between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

  • NO DRIVER’S LICENSE PROCESSING AT SPENCER COUNTY CIRCUIT CLERK’S OFFICE ON NOV. 1

    In August, Kentucky began a transition to a new driver’s license that, while similar in appearance to current licenses, contains security features for greater protection of privacy and resistance to tampering.
    The new license has multiple layers of security features, all linked to each other, so counterfeiters must compromise multiple technologies – not just one.
    The licenses’ new features include:
    •Digital watermark imperceptible to the human eye
    •Bank note-level fine line printing

    Police seek information on stolen car hauler trailer
    The Taylorsville Police Department is seeking information regarding the theft of a 16-foot car hauler trailer from East River Road between 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday morning.
    The trailer is black with a wooden bed and has green metal welded on the back.
    Anyone who has seen the trailer or has any information about when or where it was taken is asked to call the police department at 477-3231. If there is no answer, leave a message for Lt. Rick Jewell.

    JD Shelburne to perform free concert Saturday
    JD Shelburne will return to his hometown of Taylorsville on Saturday at 5 p.m. to perform a free concert at the Country Mart parking lot for his fans and community.
    Shelburne will release his Nashville debut album first in Taylorsville that afternoon and will perform a full band show. The concert is free to the public and all ages are welcome.
    This will mark Shelburne’s first return to his hometown since July 2009 to perform an actual concert. Shelburne will be hitting the road in 2013.

Lilly’s grandmother, Patty Maupin, said the sweet potato will definitely be eaten, likely at Thanksgiving or Christmas.

  • ANNIVERSARY: Thompsons to celebrate 65 years

    Phyllis and Ken Thompson of Elk Creek will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary this week. The Thompsons were married in Lexington in 1947 and moved to Spencer County upon retirement in 1988.
