  • City police department joins national crackdown to reduce impaired driving fatalities

    If you drink and drive in Taylorsville beware, the Taylorsville Police Department is joining with law enforcement throughout the nation for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign Aug. 17 to Sept. 3.
    The strong nationwide impaired driving crackdown will include high-visibility enforcement, high-profile events, and will be supported by national paid advertising, creating a comprehensive campaign to curb alcohol impaired driving from Aug. 17 through the Labor Day holiday weekend.

  • Man about EMS: ‘these guys saved my life’

    Roger Fox is alive today and, based on events that unfolded last Friday evening, he credits his livelihood to the employees of Spencer County EMS.
    Fox, 56, a resident of Rolling Trail in Hillsborough, contacted The Spencer Magnet office on Monday in hopes of expressing his thanks to the EMS crew that responded to his address on Friday.
    “These guys literally saved my life,” Fox said. “I just want to tell people, these guys are professionals.”

  • Library announces August events

    The Spencer County Public Library invites the community to its Adult Summer Reading Open House on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
    “Enjoy coffee and pastries while talking about your recent reading adventures,” organizers said. “Prizes for the Book Bingo will be awarded. Stop in even if you didn’t enter the contest we’d love to see you.”

  • Youth attending conference in Louisville to visit, help clean up Taylorsville

    About 50 teenagers attending the Assembly of God’s National Youth Convention in Louisville will be in Taylorsville next week to help with Operation City Cleanup.
    City Commissioner Beverly Ingram said Monday that Chad Goodlett, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Taylorsville, was instrumental in getting 50 of the youth from the convention into the Taylorsville area next Wednesday, Aug. 8, and Friday, Aug. 10.
    The group will be in town from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday.

  • Robinson attends Circuit Court Clerks Summer College

    Spencer County Circuit Court Clerk Becky M. Robinson participated in the 2012 Kentucky Association of Circuit Court Clerks Summer College that took place June 12-13 in Frankfort. The KACCC hosted the college and the Kentucky Association of Counties sponsored the event. The event included 6.25 hours of continuing education credit for the circuit clerks.

  • Spencer County Public Library announces highlights

    • The Spencer County Public Library’s child summer reading program is now over. The library had a big turnout and anyone who participated needs to pick up their prize package. The coupons in the prize package have an expiration date, so pick the prize packages up today.
    • Adult summer reading has started. Library employees invite adults to join in the fun and win great prizes like a year subscription to The Spencer Magnet. 
    • In July the library is offering free yoga classes Mondays at 10 a.m. and Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m.

  • COLUMN: Main Street celebrates 'Christmas in July'

    Remember when you were a child?  A couple of weeks before Christmas, colorfully wrapped presents would begin to appear under the family Christmas tree. You could think of nothing other than what was in each box. Those couple of weeks of waiting to open the gifts seemed like years. Finally, Christmas morning would come.  It was the most exciting day of the year, the day you finally got to open the presents and receive the gifts inside.
