    Boy Scout Troop 176 to host pancake supper
    Boy Scout Troop 176 invites the community to a Fat Tuesday Pancake Supper this Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at All Saints Catholic Church.
    The scouts will serve blueberry, chocolate chip and regular pancakes with sausage patties to be washed down with coffee, sweet tea or lemonade.
    The troop is accepting donations as payment for the meal.

  • Extension hosts sewing boot camp

    The Spencer County Extension Service will host a six-week sewing boot camp course every Thursday from Feb. 28 through April 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    The cost is $50, which includes lunch and a workbook. Classes will be at the new extension office, located at 100 Oak Tree Way. Allison Lewis, county extension agent for family and consumer sciences, is the course sponsor. Teachers will be Pat Douglas, master clothing volunteer, and Patti Davis, a sewing and machine embroidery enthusiast.

  • PHOTO: Fire destroys shed on Joni Lane

    Mount Eden Fire Department responded Thursday to Joni Lane on a building fire. Upon arrival, firefighters ‘found a barn fully involved in fire,’ Chief Doug Herndon said. A neighbor saw the fire and reported it to the owner who called 911, he said. The fire is believed to have started because of an electrical issue, Herndon said.

    Spencer County’s Lincoln Day Dinner set for Friday
    The Spencer County GOP is hosting its annual Lincoln Day Dinner Friday at the Spencer Christian Church Auditorium, 5720 Taylorsville Road.
    The reception starts at 6 p.m., with dinner at 6:30, then the speakers at 7:30.
    The speakers are U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, Congressman Thomas Massie and Agriculture Commissioner James Comer.
    There will also be an auction by Sheriff Buddy Stump.

    Starting Jan. 23, you can add a symbol that stands for hope and generosity on something you carry with you everywhere: your driver’s license.
    Like Indiana, Ohio and several other states, Kentuckians will soon have the option to have an organ donor heart printed on their license.

    Boys varsity basketball team to host dodgeball tourney
    The Spencer County High School boys varsity basketball team will host a dodgeball tournament on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Spencer County Middle School.
    The cost is $50 per team with 10 players per team.
    Entry forms and payment are due by 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

  • Bullitt, Spencer Red Cross to host gala

    The American Red Cross in Bullitt and Spencer counties will host its annual Valentine Gala on Saturday, Feb. 9.
    The 15th annual event at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre will include music by Wulfe Pack.
    Tickets are $50 per person or $100 per couple. A table of eight is available for $400.
    Cocktails begin at 7 p.m. with dinner at 8 p.m. featuring music by Hans Sander.
    The dance runs from 9 p.m. until midnight. The Wulfe Pack will perform. Rick VanHoose will be the MC.
