During Monday night’s Fiscal Court meeting, Spencer County Attorney Ruth Hollan, center, discussed how Spencer Countians came together to help fellow Kentuckians in West Liberty after tornadoes hit the area March 2.

In 2011, Spencer County had 163 child abuse and neglect cases reported, and the hope of local officials is that one day that number will be zero.
Spencer County’s Cabinet for Health and Family Services employees are working together this month with organizations across the nation to shed light on the issue of child abuse and neglect, with the goal that more citizens will be educated and empowered to report possible incidents to law enforcement and the cabinet.

Thanks to a contribution from a local employer, disaster relief help will be spread a little further for tornado victims in Kentucky and Indiana.
Jim Morehead and Jerry Summers, representatives with Beam Inc. in Clermont, presented a check for $25,000 to the American Red Cross disaster relief efforts.
The next day, a check for $1,800 was presented to Mike Crenshaw, director of the Bullitt-Spencer County American Red Cross service chapter, from the employees of the Clermont distilling plant.

The Spencer Magnet’s own Susan Collins, pictured at left, was honored during the annual Women’s Wellness Affair sponosored by Jewish Hospital last Tuesday.
