Readers in areas served by community newspapers continue to prefer the community newspaper as their sources of local news and advertising. The 2011 results of an annual survey conducted by the National Newspaper Association and the research arm of the Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism show that 74 percent of people in communities served by a newspaper with circulations under 15,000 read a local newspaper each week.
The survey, in its sixth year, shows consistent trends.

Once again, the Spencer County Public Library is sponsoring Food for Fines, a win-win situation for those who have late fees on books and DVDs and for those in need of food during these tough economic times.

The Food for Fines program is an effort by the Library to collect nonperishable food items in exchange for fine amnesty. According to Library Director, Debra Lawson, “The program received great community response last year and we are happy to bring it back.”


It’s kick-off time. The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event kick-off will be Tuesday at 6:30 at the Methodist Church.  This is a pot luck soup and dessert, each team is invited.  Bring a dish or dessert.
Relay For Life is the signature fund raising event of the world’s largest non-profit health organization. Money raised will benefit the local and surrounding communities by providing education, advocacy, services and research related to cancer, Relay for Life event is a 24-hour event that will be held June 8, 2012.
