  • Library hosts lots of events for all ages in November

    The following activities will be held at the Spencer County Public Library in November:
    • This month’s story time will be centered around the fall season. Story time is Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for toddlers through preschool ages and at 6:30 p.m. for everyone. Story time is canceled  Nov. 8 for Election Day.
    • Love to read for fun? Join the Bookworms on Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss books and get involved in fun activities.

  • Locals participate in senior games

    Signature Healthcare of Spencer County was one of eight nursing homes that gathered recently to compete in Signature Healthcare’s first Louisville-area Senior Olympics games.

  • Police department to host drug drop Saturday

    The Taylorsville Police Department is hosting a “drug drop” Saturday where local citizens can drop off any unwanted or expired medications in liquid or pill form.
    Taylorsville Police Chief Toby Lewis said the department will have a tent set up in its parking lot located at 70 Taylorsville Road. Participants can drive through and drop off the medications.
    All medications must be in sealed containers. Any loose pills will not be accepted.

    Joe Williams, Taylorsville native and field representative for Gov. Steve Beshear, presents Emergency Medical Services Director Darrell Stevens with a certificate declaring Stevens a Kentucky Colonel. Williams was in town Wednesday to make the presentation to Stevens, who also serves as the county’s emergency management director.

  • One hundred million now organ donors

    A goal set by Donate Life America and the donation and transplant community in 2006 was achieved this month. One hundred million people in the United States are now reported as registered organ, eye and tissue donors through state donor registries.
    As we celebrate this achievement, the need for transplants continues to rise. More than 112,000 men, women and children nationwide, 756 in Kentucky, await lifesaving organ transplants today. Thousands more await needed tissue transplants to resume their normal lives.

  • Look a little closer at tax bills

    Citizens should pay close attention to their tax bills this year, as those in escrow will most likely be responsible for forwarding them on to their mortgage companies.
    Sheriff Buddy Stump said the practice isn’t new or unique to Spencer County, but said fewer mortgage companies are requesting their clients’ bills because of technological advances in the process.
    Stump said even under previous administrations no tax bills were forwarded on to mortgage companies without the company requesting them.

  • Local grief ministry looks to offer support

    Grief is something that almost everyone can say they have experienced during their lifetime. The varying degrees of grief associated with the loss of a family member or friend can seem debilitating, especially if that loss was unexpected or occurred tragically.
    Often times people who are grieving don’t know exactly where to turn for help, and Spencer County’s Angelina Leezer and Anne Lujan have recognized that need.
