• Local VFW, Ladies Auxiliary meet second Thursday of the month

    Taylorsville VFW Post #11426 and the Ladies Auxiliary have their monthly meeting the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. The post is located at 106 Washington Street, Taylorsville. All veterans and their spouses are encouraged to attend.

    The Red Scooter is hosting an apron contest to honor local mothers. Entries are due on or before May 1 with a $1 per entry fee.

  • April marked as child abuse awareness month

    April is Child Abuse Prevention Month – in Spencer County and around the state.
    In 2010, there were 155 reports of alleged child abuse or neglect in Spencer County, according to a news release provided by the Spencer County office of the Department of Community Based Services.
    On average in the past year, there were approximately 20 Spencer County children in foster care after being removed from their home of origin due to substantiated abuse or neglect, the news release said.

  • Judge-executive proclaims April Child Abuse Prevention month in Spencer County

    Spencer County Judge-Executive Bill Karrer signs a proclamation Friday morning declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.

    Spencer County Family Resource Center coordinator Becky Wilson said creating awareness is a community effort and not to be surprised to see pinwheel gardens popping up around town.

    The pinwheels are symbols of the effort to raise awareness.

  • Hillview students reach out to troops

    Students in Jason Cox’s class at Hillview Academy spent Friday afternoon packing boxes full of goodies for troops serving in Afghanistan.

  • ‘Cot’ Thompson celebrates 75 years

    The Mount Eden Ruritan Club will be the location of a birthday dinner April 16, 7 p.m., in honor of “Cot” Thompson’s 75th birthday.
    The meal will include fried chicken, ham and rolls.
    Attendants are asked to bring a side dish.

  • MPCAA offers seniors activities, lunch

    The Multi Purpose Community Action Senior Center is the place to be for ages 60 and older. There is food, crafts, games, and education. Lunch is served daily. Please call in advance to let them know you will be having lunch.
    Transportation is provided by Wheels. The facility is located at 44 Creekside Drive in Taylorsville and is open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m Tuesdays and Thursdays. For more information, please call Susan at 477-8296.

  • Local volunteers needed at Spencer Senior Center

    Multi-Purpose CAA has many senior support services and activities. They are in need of volunteers to help at the Senior Center with crafts, games, and various other projects. The Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency provides meals to senior citizens at our facility and home delivered meals to senior citizens through the Spencer County Senior Life Enrichment Center.
