  • Little Union honors widows

    Little Union Baptist Church had its annual Widow’s Valentine Breakfast on Feb. 19 at Ryan’s in Louisville.   • A reason to Relay: Christy Weed has a whole family of reasons to support cancer research

    Editor’s note: As the Spencer County Relay for Life approaches, the paper is going to be featuring submissions from local relayers. They are going to share their stories of why they have decided to participate in the annual Relay for Life.

    Every Relay For Life participant has their reasons to Relay.  I would like to share with you “my” reason I have chosen to Relay.  My name is Christy Weed.  I am the captain of the new Relay For Life team, Hotsy-Totsy.  

  • Arrest made in break-ins at Spencer County High School parking lot

    An alleged repeat burglary offender was arrested by Taylorsville Police Friday for breaking into vehicles parked at Spencer County High School.
    Brandon Sparks, 19, of Taylorsville, was arrested by Lt. Rick Jewell after police received tips that items were missing from student vehicles.

  • Accident leaves one dead

    A Taylorsville woman was killed in a one-vehicle crash Thursday.
    Angela Anderson, 40, was traveling west on Ky. 44 around 8:20 a.m. when she lost control of her 1997 Chevrolet pickup in a curve and overcorrected, according to Kentucky State Police. According to the KSP incident report, Anderson’s vehicle left the north shoulder of the road and struck an embankment.

    Anderson was ejected from the vehicle. She was also air-lifted to the University of Louisville Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

  • Fiscal Court takes over clerk's budget

    After finding even more concerns with the proposed budget of the County Clerk’s office, the Spencer County Fiscal Court voted Monday night to funnel expenditures and revenue of that office through the general budget, bypassing the clerk’s budget altogether.

  • Maple goodness right here in Spencer County

    Maple syrup productions is not just something that happens farther north, in places like Vermont. Tom Scanlan and Sarah Fauber of Riversong Farm discovered that maple syrup can be made right here in Kentucky. They started tapping the silver maple trees on their farm in early February and are making maple syrup a few feet away.

  • McCall to celebrate 90 years Feb. 26

    Jessie McCall is celebrating her 90th birthday at Elk Creek Baptist church Saturday, Feb. 26 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. All family and friends are invited to the celebration. The gift of your presence is the only gift requested. No gifts, please.

  • A grand birthday surprise

    Pictured is Susan McGowan, second from left, with her granddaughter, Morgan,  and daughter-in-law Cara McGowan.  Cara and Morgan surprised Susan with a birthday party at CupCake Corner at The Red Scooter Feb. 12. Susan was greeted by several long-time friends at the party.  Susan teaches at Spencer County High School.  Susan is a Spencer County resident. Cara and Morgan live in Indiana.

  • McAllister graduates from University of Tennessee

    Sarah Elizabeth McAllister recently received a bachelor’s degree in communications and advertising with a minor in business administration Dec. 11, 2010, from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

    McAllister has located to Orlinda, Tenn. and has started a job with an advertising firm on Music Square in Nashville.

    Sarah is the daughter of Tony and Carol McAllister of Orlinda; the granddaughter of the late Leonard and Margaret McAllister of Taylorsville and the late Russell and Lois Griffith of Parkersburg, West Virginia.
