  • What's Happening — Week of July 31

    Call for entries in Louisville Veterans Day parade
    The annual UAW 862/Ford Motor Company Veterans Day Parade Planning Committee has issued a call for entries for this year’s parade, which will take place at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 11 (Veterans Day) in Louisville. The parade is open to all veterans organizations and individual veterans, all branches of the Armed Services, veterans’ service organizations, military re-enactment and historical groups and fraternal organizations.  

  • Fireworks rescheduled for Saturday

    Taylorsville Lake’s Fourth of July fireworks show is now rescheduled for Saturday. The show was postponed from its original July 6 date because of rapidly increasing water levels, which eventually reached 17 feet above normal summertime levels.

    Fireworks will be set off from the lake, and spectators can watch from the Taylorsville Lake State Park Ramp or Taylorsville Lake Marina’s parking area. The latter has been flooded in recent days, but organizers are hoping the parking lot will be available by July 27.

    Board of Elections to meet early on Thursday
    The Spencer County Board of Elections will meet on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. in the Clerk’s office. The regularly scheduled time is normally at 9 a.m. Call 477-3215 should you have any questions.

    Tea Party to meet Thursday
    The Spencer County Tea Party will meet Thursday at 7 p.m., at the Kentucky Farm Bureau building, 695 Taylorsville Road (next to Dairy Queen).

  • Work scheduled for Hickory Ridge Road on Thursday

    The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 5 Office advises motorists that maintenance work will be taking place this week on Ky. 1416 (Hickory Ridge Road) in Spencer County.  KYTC crews will be repairing some base failures in the pavement.

  • Library announces host of summer events

    Spencer County Public Library invites the community to join its Adult Summer Reading Open House July 27 from 10 a.m. to noon.
    Enjoy coffee and pastries while talking about  recent reading adventures.  Prizes for the Book Bingo will be awarded.  Stop in even if you did not enter the contest.
    Come out July 30 to see the inspiring artwork of Spencer County, 6:30 till 8 p.m. Area artists’ work will be displayed for the public enjoyment.

  • JDRF delegates meet McConnell

    U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell welcomed to his office the Kentucky delegates who traveled to the nation’s capital as part of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Children’s Congress.

  • What's Happening — Week of July 17

    AARP Driver Safety Program
    An AARP Driver Safety Program is planned for Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Spencer County Cooperative Extension Office, located at 100 Oak Tree Way.
    This four-hour course qualifies citizens ages 55 or older for a state-mandated discount on auto insurance.
    The cost of the course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.

  • THS class of 1948 celebrates 65-year reunion

    The Taylorsville High School Class of 1948 celebrated its 65-year reunion on June 22 at the Quality Inn East in Louisville. Fourteen members were able to attend of the 19 surviving members out of a graduating class of 35.

    Horse show set for Saturday
    The Mount Eden Saddle Club will host a horse show Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Mount Eden Ruritan Grounds.
    The event features youth/adult western/gaited pleasure and contest classes.
