Though no official action was taken, more than one-third of the Spencer County Fiscal Court’s Monday meeting was spent discussing the need for accreditation of the Taylorsville Levee and hearing comments from citizens on the issue.
The levee commission — commissioners Mike Driscoll, Bobby Smith and Joan Smith and treasurer Lois Platt — attended Monday’s meeting and Driscoll provided an update to the court.
A Taylorsville man injured in a farm accident late last month died over the weekend from those injuries.
William Troy Caraway, 42, of Taylorsville, was airlifted from Plum Ridge Road on Sept. 26 following a tractor accident on the Baird family farm.
Mark Bruner, charged with the brutal beating in 2011 of a woman left by the side of the road in Shelby County, has pleaded guilty to first-degree assault in connection with that crime and will be facing a long prison term.

Spencer County Schools’ state assessment scores are in and, unlike last year’s celebratory mood, a feeling of concern is prevailing across the district as three of the area’s four schools saw their 2012-2013 scores decline from 2011-2012.
