  • This Old House - A link to Kentucky’s earliest days

     

    A portrait of Nathan Cain hangs over the mantel in the front parlor of this majestic house on Bloomfield Road. A member of the Kentucky militia who fought in the War of 1812, a veteran keelboat operator and cooper who transported the barrels he made down the Salt River to destinations downriver on the Ohio and Mississippi, Cain wasn’t the first member of his family to call this farm home, and he wasn’t the last.

  • Couple face neglect charges

    A Cox’s Creek couple were arraigned last Friday on two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and ten counts of animal cruelty.

    Grant T. McCubbins, 40, and Miranda McCubbins, 38, were in court last week for their first appearance following their arrest in late January after officials found children and animals living in poor conditions.

    Lt. Governor Jenean Hampton encouraged students to find the leader within themselves as she spoke Friday at Spencer County Middle School.

  • Edgewater court decision could alter county’s role

    The Spencer County Fiscal Court is taking a wait and see approach before committing to assuming responsibility for the wastewater treatment plant at Edgewater Resorts that has a history of failure and currently no certified operator.

  • Levee Trail and River Walk plans unveiled

     

    Imagine bike and walking trails around the city of Taylorsville that also extend to Ray Jewell Park, up to Taylorsville Lake State Park, and possibly even extending to the Parklands at Floyd’s Fork in eastern Jefferson County. It may seem like a far-fetched plan, but those plans, or at least early concepts, have made their way to the drawing board.

    Early Childhood Screenings

    Spencer County Preschool and Headstart Early Childhood Screening is being offered on April 28th from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. and May 12, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

    The Early Childhood screening is for all Spencer County children 3 and 4 years of age. The screening will assess the areas of hearing, cognitive skills, speech/language, self-help adaptive skills, socialization, and/or motor development.
