  • Arrests made in kidnapping


    The Spencer County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their search for a Spencer County man wanted in connection with a kidnapping last week that resulted in a man being beaten and repeatedly threatened at gunpoint for several hours.

  • The grandmother of all hikes


    At the top of Mt. Katahdin, Evy Schnee felt like Tarzan. She’d arrived there by walking more than a thousand miles, the journey strewn with precipitous rock faces, staggering winds, two curious bears, a furious rattlesnake and a bewildered moose.

    At 67, the Spencer County grandmother had made her way from Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, to this mountain in Maine in less than five months.

  • Three arrested by city police

    The Taylorsville City Police Department reported the following activity last week:

    • Arrested Katlin Morrow, 25, of Taylorsville, on two Spencer County District Court warrants for Harassing Communications and Terroristic Threatening 3rd Degree charges.

    • Arrested Macey Mitchell, 24, of Taylorsville, on a Spencer District Warrant for Monitored Conditional Release violations on operating under the influence charge.

  • County still waiting for report on mold

    County officials were still waiting on a report from an inspection conducted for a potential mold outbreak at the Sheriff’s Office that has forced much of the upper level to be declared off-limits.

    Sheriff Buddy Stump told members of the fiscal court Monday that he hoped to have the report later that day or Tuesday. Meanwhile, he said some of his deputies are basically working out of their cars.
