    Senior center’s Ice Cream Social

    Multi Purpose Community Action Senior Center is inviting all seniors 60 years and older to their “Ice Cream Social” Friday, at 12:30 p.m. Come and join in on the fun festivities, and meet new friends along the way.

    Please RSVP Linda at 477-8296.

    The Multi Purpose Community Action Senior Center is the place to be for ages 60 and older. There is food, crafts, games, and education. Lunch is served daily. Contributions are accepted for meals but no one is denied a lunch due to inability to pay.

    Michael Allen Cooper. Charge #1, no operator’s/moped license. Charge #2, possess open alcohol beverage container in a motor vehicle. Pled guilty to both charges. $85 fines plus $143 court costs.

  • Man charged in wife’s death

    A Normandy man was charged in the shooting death of his wife Thursday night following a 30-hour investigation by local and state police.

    Forty-one-year-old Raymond Revard, of 879 Normandy Station Road, pled not guilty Friday in a Spencer County court to charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence. Judge Linda Armstrong set his bail at $500,000 and as of Tuesday afternoon, Revard remained housed at Shelby County Detention Center.

  • Grand jury indicts Mt. Eden man with murder

    Spencer County Grand Jury has indicted a Mt. Eden man on murder for an incident that occurred a year ago December 23.

    George T. Henderson, 70, has been charged with the alleged stabbing death of his nephew, Phillip Ray Bentley, Jr. Bentley was 48 years old at the time of his death.

    The Spencer County Sheriff’s Department was called to 180 Little Beach Road in response to a domestic dispute. Several people were inside the home when police arrived, including Henderson, who later admitted to the stabbing.

  • Reynolds family gets a fresh start in Habitat’s first home

    Outside, snow showered the front lawn of Spencer County’s first Habitat for Humanity house with a frosty blanket. Inside, members showered much warmer blessings for a happy, healthy life as Lisa Reynolds and her family were finally handed the keys to their new home.

    “I want to say thank you to everyone who has allowed this for us,” said Reynolds to the more than 60 people who gathered inside the Hillview Estates home for Sunday’s dedication.

  • Witnessing history: The inauguration of President Barack Obama

    Before he headed off to Washington, D.C. Monday morning, Dr. Charles Burton said he was uncertain how much of the Presidential Inauguration he would be able to witness. Some estimates have placed the number of people wanting to be a part of the historical event of upwards to two million. Burton said his hopes were to at least catch a glimpse of the parade as Barack Obama marched his way into being America’s first black president.

    The Taylorsville Spencer County Fire Department held their annual awards banquet at Second Baptist in Taylorsville December 13. Over 120 firefighters, family, and local officials attended.

    The following awards were presented:

    Highest Volunteer Alarm Response: Cameron Canan

    Explorer of the Year: Ben Steele

    Recruit of the Year: Paul Samson and Tyler Milburn

    Firefighter of the Year: Walt Elder and Kyle Bradshaw

    Sgt. of the Year; Cameron Canan

    Company Officer of the Year: Damon Jewell

    Chief Firefighter Award: Nick Devito

  • KDE joins local fight

    The state’s top educational organizations – including the Kentucky Department of Education – have placed their support behind the Spencer County School Board’s decision to conduct the superintendent’s evaluation in closed session and are asking the judge to reverse an opinion by the Office of the Attorney General.

  • Mt. Eden responds to Shelby Co. house fire

    Mt. Eden Fire Chief Doug Herndon said that when crews responded to a house fire at 2709 Pea Ridge Road in Shelby County, they found the entire back portion of the two-story home completely engulfed in flames.

    Herndon said that no one was at home at the time of the blaze, which occurred last Friday.

    Because of the remote location, water had to be shuttled from nearly five miles away.

    “We salvaged some items. A few pictures and collector knives, but little else,” said Herndon. “It was almost a total loss.”
