Maybe it’s the tall stack of video games in the living room, or the swimming pool and basketball goal in the back yard – but whatever the reason, Mary Browning said her home is usually packed with teenagers.

  • Christmas Eve fire destroys Cox’s Creek home

    One Spencer County family remains homeless after an early morning Christmas Eve fire consumed their rental home and everything inside.

    Angel Brown, of 2852 Max Rouse Road, said that she was awakened by the smell of smoke around 3 a.m. Wednesday and immediately went to check on her three small children. During her search of the house, Brown said she discovered a small fire and thick smoke in her son’s room.

  • Law enforcement pleas for a safer New Year

    New Year’s Eve is filled with joy in Kentucky as friends and family gather for holiday dinners, parties and other festivities.

    Every year law enforcement officials make a plea to those who drink to stay off the roads. While drunk driving is a horrible crime any day of the year, statistics show that the holiday season is by far the worst period for crashes involving alcohol.

    KSP Commissioner Rodney Brewer indicated that twenty-five people died on Kentucky roadways between December 20 and December 31 last year.

    It’s bowl season and if you turn on the television over the next several weeks, you’re going to see some of the best football players hitting the field as the season winds down. But come Sunday, two of those players will be Spencer County youngsters who are participating in the prestigious Football University Youth All-American Bowl at the AlamoDome in San Antonio.

    City offices closed for holidays

    The City of Taylorsville offices will be closed December 25, 26 and again January 1 and 2 in recognition of the Christmas and New Years Day holidays.

    Post offices open Christmas Eve

    Both Taylorsville and Mt. Eden Post offices will be open to serve customers until noon today. Regular mail delivery will not be affected by today’s early office closing.

  • Grand jury indictments

    The following grand jury indictments were recorded in Spencer County Circuit Court December 3, 2008:

    • Earl Thomas David (no address provided) was cited with one count of an unlawful transaction with a minor, a class D felony. The charge stems from an incident that occurred around May 19, 2008, when David allegedly committed an offense when he knowingly induced, assisted, or caused a minor to engage in illegal controlled substances activity.

  • Christmas Eve fire destroys home

    A Christmas Eve fire ravaged one family's home early Wednesday morning in western Spencer County.

    Taylorsville-Spencer County Fire Department responded to the fully-involved structure fire in the 2800 block of Max Rouse Road around 3:30 a.m. Firefighters worked through high winds and rain as they attempted to keep the fire from spreading to nearby homes.

    A total of six fire engines responded to the scene along the narrow one lane road. Three tankers were used shuttled water to the remote area.

    Kenneth Harold McGaughey. Charge #1, improper start from parked position. Guilty. $50 fine. Charge #2, failure of owner to maintain required insurance/security, second offense. Guilty. $1000 fine. Charge #3, operating on suspended/revoked operator’s license. Guilty. $50 fine plus $143 court costs.

    Misdemeanor:

    Stacie L. Stevens. Sentencing hearing. Sentenced to 365 days conditionally discharged. Restitution due by 12/11/09.

  • Search for missing teen leads to meth lab bust

    Spencer County Sheriff’s Department discovered an active meth lab in Taylorsville early Wednesday morning while investigating a report of a missing Winchester teen.

    The female juvenile, whose name was not released because of her age, was said to have last been seen in a silver, compact car with Troy S. Waldridge, 37, of Taylorsville. Spencer County Deputy Gordon Miles said that he went to Waldridge’s Railroad Street home to locate the girl and was granted access to search the premises.
