    With only days until the election, Charlotte Nedros was still undecided.

    For 30 years, she taught fourth and fifth graders in Jefferson County. Now, nine years into retirement, the Spencer County native wanted to make sure Kentucky legislators planned to uphold promises made decades ago – she wanted to hear a commitment to preserving teachers’ pensions.

  • Online resources now available for voters

    Kentuckians have access to multiple online services which will allow voters to prepare for the upcoming general election. Citizens can view sample ballots online, check their voter registration, and obtain driving directions to their polling location – all by visiting the Vote Kentucky! online presence created by the Office of the Secretary of State with support from the Kentucky State Board of Elections at: www.vote.ky.gov.

  • Police arrest 14 in early morning sting

    Before sunrise Monday morning, Taylorsville Police Department, along with the Spencer County Sheriff’s Department and Kentucky State Police, began rounding up local individuals with warrants stemming from an undercover drug investigation.

    During what the police refer to as “Fall Harvest,” 14 people in Spencer County were arrested, with 21 charges, all in connection with the one and a half year investigation which began in July 2007, said Trooper Ronald Turley of the Kentucky State Police.

    OKHHS Class of 1966 reunion

    Old Kentucky Home High School Class of 1966 will have its annual reunion at the Stone Hearth Restaurant in Elizabethtown, Saturday, at 6:30pm. The Stone Hearth is located at 1001 N. Mulberry (Hwy. 62) a short distance west of I-65 entrances and on the opposite side of the road from Ring Road in the Dolphin Springs area.

  • Jobless rates up in 115 counties; Spencer County, 9.7 percent

    Unemployment rates rose in 115 Kentucky counties between September 2007 and September 2008 and fell in five counties, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

  • High school cafeteria still not operational

    The cafeteria at the Spencer County High School is still not up and running as reported during the architectural update given before the Spencer County Board at Monday’s meeting.

    When asked when the school could expect to utilize the new cafeteria, the representative responded that he would have to check and make some calls to find out a more definite time scale. Adding he was hoping that all construction would be complete by the time the students, staff and faculty return from Christmas break.

  • Election 2008 countdown: Are you ready?

    Predictions are that lines will be long at polling places nationwide this coming election day – and local voters should expect nothing different, said Spencer County Clerk Judy Puckett.

    Of Spencer County’s 11,213 registered voters, about half are expected to cast their ballot next Tuesday. That figures out to about 5,600 people voting at one of 6 locations.

    “We just ask for everyone’s patience,” said Puckett. “We want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to vote.”

  • Murphy’s Echo brings a Mt. Eden family together

    “If you’ve got time to breathe, you’ve got time for music,” said Tina May of Murphy’s Echo, quoting a member of the famous “Darlin’s” from the Andy Griffith Show.

    Murphy’s Echo consists of May and her three sons, Isaac, 12, Cory, 15 and Tyler, 18.

    The boys have been playing together for just three years. Their mother said she taught them to read music and they taught her to play the bass about two years ago.

    “I have been singing to them since the day they were born,” said Tina.
