  • Board ups offer on McAllister property

    The Spencer County Board of Education voted Monday to approve offering $11,500 an acre for 20 acres for the property located at 101 McAllister Lane off of Ky. 44. The motion came after approximately 30 minutes in executive session during which the board discussed several matters.

  • Candidates file for general election

    Several candidates have filed to run in the general election in a number of non-partisan races. The deadline to file was yesterday at 4 p.m. As of press time, the following candidates had announced their candidacy for several races.
    In the city of Taylorsville, the only filers appear to be those candidates who already hold offices with the city.

    The following are property transfers collected from the Spencer County Clerk’s office for June and July, 2014:

    June 27, 2014: JWC Group, LLC of Elk Creek Rd., Taylorsville to Linda H. Fountain and Donald Lee Fountain of Alexander Way, Fisherville, lot 53, consisting of 1.02 acres of Kingsmill Subdivision, phase II as shown in plat cabinet 5, slide 45 in the Spencer County Clerk’s office, $360,600.

  • Election Deadlines

    Spencer County Clerk Lynn Hesselbrock has provided the following information regarding upcoming election deadlines.
    • Aug. 12 at 4 p.m.: Deadline to file for all non-partisan offices, city commissioners, school board and Soil and Water commissioners.
    • Aug. 14 at 2 p.m.: Drawing of names to appear on the general election ballot.
    • Sept. 18: First day to apply for absentee ballots by mail. The Clerk’s office will begin mailing out the ballots on that day. Ballots will be mailed out within three days of their receipt.

  • School board approves KSBIT funds, lot offer

    Over the course of two meetings members of the Spencer County Board of Education took a significant step in ameliorating the deficit situation with the Kentucky School Boards Insurance Trust.
    During the first meeting held on July 28, Spencer County School Superintendent Chuck Adams said that the situation was slightly better than originally anticipated. Adams said that current estimates placed the payment due and owing by the school at just over $486,000 instead of the $639,000 originally projected.

    Spencer County Bears Soccer to host alumni game
    Saturday, August 9th beginning at 7pm at the High School stadium, the Spencer County Bears are hosting an Alumni Soccer Game. This year, not only will they be holding a game between the current SCHS team and a team of alums, but we are also inviting an Alumni Band to play and an Alumni Cheerleading Squad to cheer the players on.
