  • County approves pay hike

    After fighting for two years to get select county employees a significant raise in salary, Spencer County Judge-Executive John Riley saw those increases approved during Monday’s meeting of the Spencer County Fiscal Court, but it wasn’t unanimous.

    Riley has numerous times talked about the disparity of some county employees compared to what their peers in other counties are making and has proposed salary adjustments for several during the last two budget cycles, only to have them defeated. On Monday, he was finally successful.

  • Two arrested on drug charges

    Two Spencer County men are facing drug charges following a search of their home last Tuesday that yielded a suspected indoor marijuana growing operation.

    Christopher Firkins, 30, and Lester D. Firkins, 62, both of 550 Tindale Road, located off Lilly Pike, were arrested on May 30, after deputies from the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant.

  • Relay for Life Saturday

    Spencer Countians will rally again for a cure during the annual Relay for Life event slated for this Saturday from 5 p.m. until midnight at the Spencer County High School.

    Relay for Life is an annual event that allows community members to honor cancer survivors, fighters, and stand in solidarity with those who have lost loved ones to cancer. This event is one way the community can stand with one another and show support, coordinator Samantha Turner said.

    “Cancer never sleeps,” Tanner said. “We can take one night a year to honor them.”

    Breisa Baker, the daughter of Brent and Lisa Baker, of Taylorsville, will be uniting in marriage with Colin Varney on June 24 at The Barn in the Red River Gorge near Stanton, KY.

    Spencer County Fair Pageants

    The Spencer County Fair will hold three pageants this Saturday, June 10,  at the Fairgrounds. At noon the Pre-Teen Pageant will be held in the pavilion. At 2:30 p.m., the Teen Pageant will be held, followed by the Miss Spencer County Pageant.

    Lee and Carlie Burden are the latest Spencer County family to receive a safe and affordable home with a no-interest mortgage, which was built with hundreds of hours of volunteer labor.

  • Taylorsville Lake State Park clean up


    Friends of the Taylorsville Lake State Park spent a recent Saturday cleaning up the Possum Ridge Boat Ramp area. They cut down several trees that were blocking trails and picked up trash in the area. Volunteers worked to make that area of the lake more attractive to users and visitors.
