  • COLUMN: We’re among heroes every day

    I spent Friday night on the couch trying to fight off what has now become a full-fledged cold. So much for that, but it’s not like I would have moved from in front of the tv anyway. When my eyes weren’t reading the latest tweets to stay updated, they were glued to the national new stations as America awaited the capture of a terrorist.
    Once the suspects in the April 15 Boston Marathon bombings were identified, law enforcement officials in and around Boston spent hour after hour trying to capture them.

  • National Day of Prayer event set for May 2

    Tens of thousands of prayer events are planned across the country on Thursday, May 2, to honor the annual National Day of Prayer. In churches, parks and on courthouse steps, citizens will pray for our nation, government leaders, media, military, schools, churches, businesses and families.
    Spencer County will honor the National Day of Prayer on the courthouse steps in Taylorsville from noon to 1 p.m.  Many government leaders will participate in the program as well as several Spencer County pastors, according to a news release.

  • Three sentenced in July 2012 cocaine raid

    Three of four Spencer Countians who pleaded guilty to drug charges that came as a result of a July 2012 bust by the Taylorsville Police Department were sentenced in Circuit Court on Thursday.
    Neither Raymond Birdsong, 62, Margaret F. Tingle, 76, or Terrence E. Gilbert, 48, will serve any jail time as long as they stay on the right side of the law for the next five years.
