    Boys varsity basketball team to host dodgeball tourney
    The Spencer County High School boys varsity basketball team will host a dodgeball tournament on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Spencer County Middle School.
    The cost is $50 per team with 10 players per team.
    Entry forms and payment are due by 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

  • Bullitt, Spencer Red Cross to host gala

    The American Red Cross in Bullitt and Spencer counties will host its annual Valentine Gala on Saturday, Feb. 9.
    The 15th annual event at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre will include music by Wulfe Pack.
    Tickets are $50 per person or $100 per couple. A table of eight is available for $400.
    Cocktails begin at 7 p.m. with dinner at 8 p.m. featuring music by Hans Sander.
    The dance runs from 9 p.m. until midnight. The Wulfe Pack will perform. Rick VanHoose will be the MC.
    Tickets may be purchased by calling 955-6259.

  • Apply for financial aid for college at the Spencer County Public Library

    The Spencer County Public Library and Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority will help interested parties apply for financial aid. On Jan. 26, 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Gene Weis will be at the library to provide step-by-step directions through the process.

  • LIHEAP crisis component began Jan. 7

    Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency, Inc. began operating the “crisis” portion of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program on Jan. 7. The program is operated on a first come first serve basis until federal funds are exhausted.
    LIHEAP assists households that are in a home heating crisis. The deepening of cold winter weather combined with rising utility costs leaves many households unable to fully meet heating bills or purchase sufficient bulk fuel to keep their families safe and warm. Your local Community Action Partnership stands ready to help.

    A visit to the new Thomas Nelson High School once again revealed the huge gap between schools when it comes to athletic facilities. The Spencer County boys played there Friday night and walking into that gymnasium leaves one wide-eyed and amazed.

  • Bears down Generals 89-76

    The Spencer County Bears traveled to Bardstown on Friday night and came away with a 89-76 victory in their first game ever against the Thomas Nelson Generals.
