  • SCHS boys’ basketball team to host dodgeball tourney

    Spencer County High School Boys’ Basketball will host a dodgeball tournament on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 5 to 9 p.m. in the high school gym.
    The tournament is open to ages 13 and up, and teams should have 10 people. The cost is $5 per person to be on a team.
    The tournament is single elimination. Overall winning team will win prizes (to be announced).
    Admission to watch the tournament is $3 for adults and $1 for children.

    As the passing show slows for Thanksgiving, there are people who parade through our lives whom I am immensely thankful.
    1. Joe ‘Joker’ Phillips came this way. Three seasons into a five-year deal, he’s out. Some will forget that Kentucky fans abandoned him. Some of us won’t.

    The Spencer County Sheriff’s Department is currently collecting funds to support the second-annual Sheriff’s Shining Stars Christmas gift-giving program which benefits the children of local families.

  • PHOTO: Taylorsville Police, KSP sponsor ‘Cram the Cruiser’

    The Taylorsville Police Department and Kentucky State Police Post 12 in Frankfort are partnering to “Cram the Cruiser” — two cruisers, actually.  A Taylorsville Police cruiser and a KSP cruiser are parked outside of Country Mart with the agencies’ goal of collecting enough food to fill them both, then deliver to families in need in the community. To help, drop off non-perishable items at The Spencer Magnet, Hometown Pizza, Country Mart or The Tea Cup. Pictured are TPD Chief Toby Lewis and KSP Sgt. Scott Felder.

  • Robinson to sing with CU Concert Chorus

    The Campbellsville University Concert Chorus will present part one of Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 8 p.m. in the sanctuary of Campbellsville Baptist Church, located at 530 North Central Avenue, Campbellsville.
    Chelsey Robinson, a freshman from Taylorsville, will perform singing soprano with Campbellsville University’s Concert Chorus.
    “Elijah” is a major oratorio by Mendelssohn that tells the story of the biblical character, Elijah, in various historical settings.

    Several veterans visited the classroom of Sherry Baird at Spencer County Elementary School last week as part of Grandparents Day and Veterans Day festivities.   • SCES class makes cards to spread holiday cheer

    Sometime this holiday season, a service man or woman serving overseas, in a military hospital or another location will receive a card from one of Spencer County Elementary teacher Sharon Baird’s fifth grade students and will know that some of the country’s youngest boys and girls appreciate the sacrifice.

    Spencer Countian Scott Travis has been named as a finalist for the Kentucky Farm Bureau 2012 Farmer of the Year award.
