  • Donate food, decrease your library fines

    The Spencer County Public Library’s third annual Food for Fines program kicks off on Friday. Patrons with late fees on books or DVDs can help the community and wipe out the fines on their accounts by donating canned goods or other nonperishable food items to the library.
    The Library is offering $1 credit toward any fine for each canned or boxed item brought into the library between Friday and Monday, Dec. 31.

  • Toy sale sign-ups Friday, Monday

    This year, the toy sale sponsored by the Spencer County Ministerial Association will partner with local toy store, Toytopia, to let parents choose toys for their children at reduced rates.
    Each year at the annual Community Thanksgiving Service, the association collects an offering to support the toy sale.  Then, after registration, the association determines how much is available to spend on each child.

    A Louisville man was injured in a one-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon on Plum Creek Road. Factors in the crash are believed to be drug involvement, medication and overcorrecting, according to the collision report.

  • Four arrested on drug charges indicted

    Four individuals arrested in mid July on multiple drug-related charges have been indicted by a Spencer County Grand Jury.
    Raymond Birdsong, 62, and Margaret F. Tingle, 75, both of the 100 block of Hardin Court in Taylorsville, were indicted on one count of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, cocaine; one count of possession of drug paraphernalia; and one count of possession of marijuana. The trafficking charge is a class C felony, while the others are misdemeanors.

  • Sheriff’s department, EMS move forward with radio plans

    The Spencer County Sheriff’s Department and Spencer County EMS are moving forward with their switch to ICOM digital radios, and the county expects work to begin soon on its own radio tower, Judge-Executive Bill Karrer said last week.
    Karrer also said that it has already been determined who owns the existing radio equipment, which can be sold to recoup costs of the new equipment.
