    Jason Morgan, of 3449 Love Lane, in Taylorsville was indicted on seven counts that occurred about March 31, 2009; one felony count of manufacturing methamphetamine, three felony counts of trafficking illegal substances, two counts of illegal possession of a controlled substance and one count of illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • A day of fun in the sun at the Baseball Bash

    The 2009 Baseball Bash at Ray Jewell Park Saturday drew hundreds of players and their families for an end of the season celebration.

    “It was hot, but it turned out to be great. We probably had 600 to 700 people there,” said Daniel Cole, president of the Spencer County Youth Baseball Association.

    The annual fundraiser brought in an estimated $5,000 that will be used toward dirt, brick dust conditioner and possibly even lights.

    With 32 baseball and softball teams, scheduling games can be difficult, said Cole.

    There’s probably not a person in Spencer County that has not been affected by cancer. You’ve heard the numbers cited before and there’s no real reason to repeat them because the truth is, everyone reading this has or will know someone who will be inflicted by this terrible disease.

    But rather than brace for the inevitable, many in the community find the best way to address the disease is head-on, and that’s what will be taking place this weekend at the Spencer County Middle School parking lot on KY 44 during the annual Relay for Life.

  • Flash flooding closes roads, strands one motorist

    Flood waters closed roads and left one motorist stranded after a thunderstorm Monday evening.

    Spencer County Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Martin helped a man get out of his truck as water swept across KY 44/Mt. Washington Road near River Heights subdivision. Martin said the man was attempting to drive through the flooded roadway when his engine stalled.

    Martin said even as the rain and flood were subsiding, water still hit just below his knees as he escorted the man to safety.

  • UK's all-equine field day set for June 27

    The University of Kentucky Equine Initiative will hold an all-equine field day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 27 on UK’s Maine Chance Equine Campus on Newtown Pike, just north of Interstate75. Admission is free, and lunch will be available for purchase from the Fayette County Cattlemen’s Association and the Fayette County 4-H and FFA Livestock Club.

    The field day is designed for horse owners, farm owners, farm managers and equine veterinarians. Participants are encouraged to come prepared with a long list of questions for the experts.

  • Gunz a blazin' U14 team places 2nd

    Spencer County 14U team Young Gunz placed second in the first annual Summer Slam Classic last weekend.  The two-day tournament was held in London  June 13-14.  The team came from behind to win two games but, dispite their grit, were named runner-up.
