    For residents of Taylorsville

    The City of Taylorsville will be holding an informational meeting for residents of Main Cross and Washington Streets Thursday at the City Hall annex. Information to be discussed will be drainage, sidewalks and road projects in that area.

  • New Dollar General store planned for Elk Creek

    Elk Creek residents could be getting their first major retail chain store this summer if building plans continue for a Dollar General store at the intersection of Taylorsville Road and Plum Ridge Road.

    Excavation crews could be seen last week pushing dirt around the 1.28 acres of uneven land – making a level spot for what contractor Randy Smith said will be a 9,200 sq. ft. metal structure with a front, brick facade.

    In photo, Spencer County Middle School soccer player Bradley Reynolds goes head-to-head with a competitor during a game Friday afternoon.

    This season, the boys team has lost to North Oldham 3-1 and to East Oldham 2-1, but beat Henry County 5-0.

    The girls team have tied 2-2 against South Oldham and lost to Oldham County 4-3.

  • Carnival for juvenile diabetes expected to attract hundreds

    What’s better than a huge carnival? How ‘bout a huge carnival with a cause?

    That’s what you’ll find in downtown Taylorsville this Saturday during the first annual Carnival for a Cure, an event that will help raise awareness and funds for the fight against Juvenile Diabetes.

    Debby Cannon has worked with other families in the community with children dealing with this disease and have banded together to create the event.

  • Foreclosure intervention help for residents

    Judge Charles Hickman, circuit court judge for Anderson, Shelby and Spencer counties met with members of the Spencer County Foreclosure Intervention Program on April 9.  While Judge Hickman clearly stated his commitment to neutrality regarding petitioners of the court, he also encourages efforts to save their homes through counseling, modifications or other means. 

    In Judge Hickman’s words, “…most of the cases where I issue judgments are due to default of appearance by the homeowner.” 

  • Farmers Market opens Saturday

    The Farmers Market in Taylorsville will open up this weekend and organizers are hoping for bigger and better things this growing season.

    Sandy Deutsch said there more than a dozen local growers who brought their plants and produce to sell at market last year, and that number could expand this season.

    “We’ve had more people ask about it so I expect to have that many or more this year.”

  • Elk Creek traffic at a stand-still after Friday car wreck

    Emergency personel responded to a two-car accident Friday afternoon on Taylorsville Road in front of Elk Creek Grocery. The accident occurred at 4:50 p.m., just as most folks were heading home from work. Traffic was  blocked in both directions for over 30 minutes while EMS transported one patient to the hospital. No  information on injuries was given.
