  • SCHS Cross Country


    The SCHS Cross Country Team prepared for their competition Saturday, when they traveled to Bardstown Saturday for the Hillbilly Run. Sophomore Lindsey Bush, finished 7th with a time of 21:20, followed by 7th grader Haley Wethington at 9th with a time of 21:42. Tabitha Martin was 12th with a time of 22:14. On the boys side, Joel Wafford had his season best time of 18:40, as did Hunter Detrich who finished at 18:47. Hunter Wethington, a freshman, battled injuries but finished in 19:34. Chris Lawson ran in 19:47 and Gavin Mattingly finished with a time of 23:06.

  • Bears soccer


    Spencer County’s Josh Brown, advances the ball during a recent game with Collins. The boys soccer team tied with Frankfort 2-2 last week, and then dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Shelby County at home. The boys are 5-5-3 on the season and will travel to Thomas Nelson on Thursday and will host Bullitt East next Tuesday night.

  • Lady Bears Volleyball


    Cassie Kemper sends the ball over the net during a game earlier this season for the Lady Bears. The girls are 7-11 on the season after going 2-1 last week. They fell in three games to Shelby County and lost 2-0 at Washington County before bouncing back with a 2-0 victory over Henry County. They will travel to Anderson County on Tuesday and will host Whitefield Academy next Monday.

  • Sports Briefs - Week of September 28, 2016

    Youth basketball signups

    Spencer County Parks and Recreation Basketball signups will be held October 22 and 29th from 9 a.m. until 12 noon at the Spencer County Middle School.

    The league is for children ages K through 8th grades. Evaluations for 2nd through 8th grade will be held during signups.

    The fee for participation is $75 and must be paid on sign-up day. The league also needs coaches to signup on that day. You can get registration forms by going to http://www.spencercountyky.gov/parks.php.

  • Bears top Titans 42-35


    With the Spencer County defense protecting their team’s first lead of the night late in the first quarter, senior linebacker Hunter Brown made the play of the game when he intercepted a Collins pass and returned it from beyond midfield for a touchdown, giving the Bears a two touchdown cushion. From there they would hold on to preserve a 42-35 victory over the Titans in the district opener for both teams Friday night.

    A lot of jokes and stories start with, “There are two kinds of people in the world.”  Here is my contribution. There are two kinds of people, those that love to mow the lawn and those that don’t

    I fall in the latter category. I love the fall when the lawn stops growing.  I love it when I can stow the mower and the trimmer for the winter.  On the other hand, I like a well kept lawn, so I get out there every week and get it done.

    Van Buren Baptist Church Anniversary/Homecoming

    Van Buren Baptist Church  will be celebrating its 40th anniversary of their church building on September 25, 2016.
    The church was started in 1950 by Rev. Lewis Searcy and others in the community of Van Buren. In 1976, the church had to relocate and purchase land on Fairmount Road due to the creation of Taylorsville Lake.
