  • Doubling down on pension secrecy

    Legislation during this year’s General Assembly requiring disclosure of public retirement benefits for all current and former lawmakers, “including their name, status, and projected or actual retirement benefit payments,” passed the Republican-run state Senate with unanimous, bipartisan support from all 38 senators and flew through the Democratically controlled House State Government Committee with 19 of the 21 members who voted approving it.

  • Education - Seven named as Jeff Green Scholars

    Seven students from Spencer County have been named Senator Jeff Green Scholars by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA). To earn this honor, a student must have a 4.0 grade point average each year of high school and at least a 28 composite on the ACT.

    These students have also earned $2,500 a year in Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) awards. If they keep their grades up in college, they will have $10,000 to use toward a four-year degree.

  • What’s happening - Week of August 31, 2016

    Spencer County Animal Shelter to host open house

    Staff and volunteers at the Spencer County Animal Shelter are inviting everyone to come visit the shelter and “meet some of the sweetest dogs in Spencer County.”

    The event will be held on Saturday, September 10th from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the shelter, which is located behind Country Mart and close to the recycling center.

    The Taylorsville City Police Department reported the following activity last week:

    • Arrested Christopher Decker, 24, of Taylorsville on charges of 4th degree Assault, domestic violence.

  • Education - TES takes a stand against bullying


    Fifth graders at Taylorsville Elementary School recently participated in seminars to teach them how to combat bullying. Each year, the school instructs fifth graders how to stand up for themselves in calm and safe ways. The school employed the help of district employees and members of the community to help in the event.

  • Education - Bears greeting Tigers


    Seniors from the Spencer County High School football team recently showed up at Taylorsville Elementary School to greet students as they arrived in the morning.

  • Education - McKinley named to honor roll at Bellarmine

    Bellarmine University has named Taylorsville, KY resident Cheyenne McKinley to the dean’s list for the  Spring 2016. McKinley is a junior majoring in Nursing, and previously attended Spencer County High School. Bellarmine Dean’s List recognizes students who receive a grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale. She is the daughter of Craig and Michelle McKinley.
